SWAC expansion / Is it time?

Dude.
We will play Delta state whenever the schedules work out.
Question is would ya'll play them?
I'll answer that................HELL NAW!!

Delta State has played and beat SFA 17-14, scored 27 point's in a 52-27 loss to McNeese last year, and was a touchdown away from beating San Houston state, and was one TD away from beating Texas state which was the school that posted 63 point's on Texas Southern.

The intent was not to smack! I just asked a question man!

yeah right.
And it's not hot in Mississippi this time of year either.

But..............I'll play along.
Why would JSU not want to play Delta state Again since you not smacking.:noidea:

You tell me since nobody from JSU has ever said we don't won't to play them again. :lecture:

Tuskegee only has a god football program.. every other sport is way below average... and also their president doesnt have any plans to do anything with their stadium and has said that TU cannot afford to move up.

Right... We tend to only look at this from a football perspective because our focus is to get 12 teams so that we can have both the SCG and another post season contest. Overall athletic program should be taken into account to some extent. I would prefer Tennessee State and Tuskegee personally for football purposes. Tuskegee would be the only private school and don't know how well that would fit into the SWAC.

North Alabama and Delta State are playoff participates. Doubt they would want to change that.

They would be great additions to the SWAC but maybe not as powerful since they will have to abide by D-1 recruiting rules. But I am sure that UNA would want to join the OVC if they were to make a move and Delta State would probably want to be in the Southland.

Because JSU would have nothing to gain!

That's why I picked those other 2 teams.
they have national championships in football, basketball, and baseball.

So the FBS school's should stop playing Gram because they have nothing to gain.............Right?:shame:
Our school's don't have nothing to gain when we play Tuskeege, Stillman, Corncedia?, Langston, Savannah State(before this year), NCCU, and all those other D2 HBCU's we all play.
What's the difference between them and Delta state besides the difference in how good they are? :noidea:
We don't have anything to gain by playing any of them either.

Only one reason for that first Delta State post.

You mofo's are like "Mr. Whiffle" in that tissue commercial.
Ya'll can't resist.
That's why I gave the answers I did cause I knew some dummy would come in here with the running from P. View crap if I gave ya'll enough rope to hang yourself.

Again.
You want to complain about P. View.
You Louisana school's claim to control the SWAC so I suggest you go strole your arses into the SWAC HQ and talk to your puppet's sitting at the top making the conference schedules out.

Man, don't be so sensitve. I wasn't trying to smack, but I just asked a question. You are trying to dig too deep into the question.

On the real talk it would be in JSU's interest to play PV because they are becoming the team to beat and what better way to showcase your talent by playing PV. From what I heard, which was that Comegy didn't want to play 9 games in a row so he scheduled an open date (lol, that could have been the damnest lie to thwart off that that beat-down from PV thatm I think, is sure to come:lol:) But, who knows, lol, (couldn't resist) maybe there is still hope for JSU at the hands of PV!

I think if you are going to play a lower division the team should win and win by a large margin; hey, look at us playing OSU this year, GR said something about they might bust a 100 on Gram. and that is a very good possibility. If Gram. wins then that will seriously hurt their program, lol. I don't see any thing wrong with it just balance things out to where your team is not biting themselves in the foot, like playing a too easy schedule. From what I've seen JSU's schedule is descent but I think that the 11th game would solidify it more.

I feel you. Delta State is very competitive across the board at their level. I don't know if they are interested in moving up but they would fit in the SWAC footprint.

To me, we're looking at expansion in the wrong direction. Rather than a horizontal expansion what about stepping up a level to FBS status. Not immediately, but with a 10 year conference wide plan to move to FBS status.

Why not...we don't participate in the FCS playoffs anyway? We could still have the SCG and who knows might get a bid to the New Orleans Bowl versus the Sunbelt Conference.

Some nice "natural" matchups that would occur as home and homes once we're also FBS between the SWAC and the Sunbelt. Only now as a fellow FBS we can recruit more athletes and win out on some of those kids who are enamored with signing "D1".

We'd take our lumps for a while...but it would level out over a few years. I think it would at Grambling!

This a great idea. It would have to be an "ALL or NOTHING" go though for whoever chose to make the move. It would take a leader with some vision the get everyone on board though. Not sure we have that right now.

Add Skegee and TN State and then it should look like this:

EAST

Tn State
AAMU
JSU
Bama St
MVSU
Skegee

WEST

Tex So
PV
SU
Alcorn
UAPB
Gram

The problem with adding TNST and TUSK is that it forces you to split up the Mississippi Schools. ALCN and MVSU will not go for playing JSU very other year. But on the western front all you have is NAIA teams like Langston/Lincoln(MO)/Texas College.

Also, Mississippi Teams don't want to lose out on playing SOU/GSU every year with the 7 game mandate, so they definitely would not be in favor of expansion. Simply put, it breaks up the some of the SWAC's best rivalries.

West
Alcorn
Jackson St.
Southern
Grambling
Prairie View
Texas Southern
UAPB
East
Tennessee St.
Alabama A&M
Alabama St.
FAMU
Tuskegee
MVSU
Albany St.

Tuskegee only has a god football program.. every other sport is way below average... and also their president doesnt have any plans to do anything with their stadium and has said that TU cannot afford to move up.

First of all Dahill get your facts correct. Our tennis teams (men and women) have won several conference championships in recent years, and our women's basketball team is always competitive, and won the conference tourney in 08.

Second, the president you mentioned is about to retire. TU is searching for a new president now. He has never publically mentioned whether we can afford to move up. It is a fact that his priority has not been athletics, but in improving academic facilities and programs.

My sense is that some are very interested, in a desire to play many of our former SIAC rivals regularly who have moved up. Quite a few are ambivalent. And some want to stay where we are.

Personally, I would only be for a move if we commit to expending the resources necessary to move up properly. I don't want to see us doing a half azzed move up.

Properly funding scholarships in all sports
full time coaches for all sports
facilities upgrades (football, baseball, softball, track especially).

And we would have to add at least one more sport for men and women.

If the new president comes in with a plan to move up, and that plan shows where the money is going to come from (TU doesn't spend money it doesn't have. We've operated overall in the black throughout the current president's tenure), then Alumni will probably be all for it.

I don't see the SWAC expanding anytime soon, if ever. There are too many things going against the practicality of the idea. The only FCS school that would be a fit, TennSt, has no interest in joining a non-playoff conference. As for the Div II, Div III, and NAIA schools mentioned, none of them have expressed an interest in moving to FCS. And with the NCAA increasing the requirements for moving to FCS, you won't see any but the most financially solvent programs attempting to move up.

For the more successful SWAC programs (SU and GSU), I can see a point where they might decide to bolt the SWAC and seek admittance to the Southland conference, which would welcome them with open arms.

So the consensus is Skegee and Big Blue. The Albany State and Delta State is refreshing.

UNA was out of the box but good for thought. That idea of creating a new conference and have a 4 team playoff between the SWAC, MEAC, NewConf, and the highest ranked non-championship winner would work if given a chance.

Is a Tiger or cat the only mascot aloud at HBCU"S

Someone mentioned moving the SWAC up to FBS. If that were to happen, they would not be allowed a conference championship game unless they expand to 12 teams, which is the FBS rule.
