Is this notion hypocrtical?

When an athlete gets in trouble with law like Donte Stallworth, Mike Vick, Matt Jones, Plaxico Burress and now Patrick Kane a large majority of people do not want those athletes to continue their careers. People don't want Vick to play in the NFL after being charged with dogfighting.

Some want Kane shipped to Russia for attacking a cabbie and Jones has not been signed by an NFL team after being charged with snorting crack in his truck. Baseball players take PEDs and folks want them banned forever.

Stay with me here.

When a music performer, actor or actress does similar acts or even worse and goes to jail nobody screams that entertainer should no longer make music or movies. When Michael Jackson was going through his whole child molestation saga in court nobody said, "that guy should not be making music." A lot of people thought he should be thrown in jail, but few said he should not be cutting tracks.

The same with R. Kelly who was seen on tape screwing teenage girls. Nobody said the R&B star should forgo recording songs for the good of the industry.

Chris Brown goes Ali on Rihanna and not a single word is uttered that he should no longer have the right to continue his craft.

Some actors and actresses have beaten their wives/husbands, done drugs, got into fights and even been caught with hookers, but few have protested against said stars making movies.

Why is it different for athletes as opposed to entertainers who make music and movies?

Why is T.I. treated differently than Mike Vick?

Yes it's hypocritical.
Brandy killed a woman and yet you hardly hear anything about it.
Hollywood star's get caught for everything under the sun yet they will be on TV the next week walking down the red carpet like nothing happened while the broadcasters fawn all over them.
Let an athlete do something like that and watch all the hell break loose.

I have asked the same thing when people start acting a fool over an athlete getting $10 million per season and a actor or actress getting $10 million to $25 million per movie.

And on top of that, the movie can be a bomb and they still get their money up front.
An athlete can get cut at any time if his performance bombs and he won't get paid in full.

Chris Brown? They ain't doggin out Chris Brown like they doin vick???? lmao...I was with you til I saw Browns name cause they givin that man hell

Look at your skin. That should sum it up for you.

That sum's up my point.
I just tried not to mention skin color.

There are still pleas and offers for that drug addict Lohann to continue her carear and she got caught with drug's in her pocket at the police station.
Then basically stole a car in front of a club the next week chasing someone.
Still no jail or demands for her to get lost or never work in the industry again.

Mike Vick is getting criticized worst than Chris Brown. Although Brown beat up his girlfriend, nobody is saying that he should stop making music and get a regular job like folks want Vick to do. Millions of people and even an organization (PETA) is against Vick playing in the NFL, the only job that will get him out of debt. That is not the case with Brown.

No domestic violence organization is telling Brown he has to get his head examined before making another album. He just has to stay away from Rihanna and do some community service.

Cee, I was thinking the same thing. AA tend to be looked at more closely when we do something wrong. Let Obama mess up and they will be all over him with the quickness.

Wait, you are missing the point here. I know that black people get treated differently when it comes to crime and the transgressions they commit.

That is not what the thread is about. It is about why are athletes, black and white ,are treated differently by the public when they do something wrong as opposed to folks in Hollywood and cats who cut records in the studio?

I mean, as players said a lot of actors and actresses make a lot of bad movies, but nobody complains about how much money they make. When an athlete has a bad season or half a season, folks complain about that all day.

Again, when an entertainer, black or white, runs afoul of the law you don't hear the public say, "that guy deserves to be suspended from making songs for a year." or "making movies is not a right, he or she should be treated like the average Joe when they mess up." "He just can't get arrested for doing drugs and still make movies."

True Brown has not come out with a track yet, but that don't mean he can't make music. He does not have get reinstated by the commish or prove to everyone he is a good guy like Vick does for him to go into a studio. Mike Vick gotta spend time with PETA, be a choir boy before he gets to play. Brown could go to 100 strip joints, have those photos on TMZ and get in a fight and still make music. Mike Vick gets into a fight at a strip joint and he's done.

Vick has the clear chance to play in another leauge as well...He CHOOSE to stay in the NFL also.....

Kendrick,

A lot of the difference can be attributed to media coverage... The media loves a story and whatever sells "feel good" or "aw hell naw" it doesn't matter to them. When they see it going in either direction, they milk it.

For instance... Lindsay Lohan/Brittney Spears was all over the tabloids initially about being such squeaky clean and cute little child stars. That's all we read ad nauseum...once the bad things started to surface, they switched their coverage and milked that for all it's worth.

Race has something to do with it...but there's another race that impacts things just as much. The race to get ratings or sell papers. The media not only reports the knews but it also keeps a story alive until it gets every morsel of juice out of it... If I get caught in a dog fighting ring or dui, it's in the local papers for 1 day. With a celebrity, there's an indepth followup as to where I bought the drink, what car I was driving, how many dogs I owned, etc, etc.

Most superstar athletes are seen by a wider and large audience than the entertainers, so of course the media would pick up on that.

For example lets say Micheal Vick vs. Lindsey Lohan? Lindsey Lohan is only looked at or followed by a certain group of people. I don't even know what she is known for, honestly. Now, Micheal Vick being a superstar football player in a popular sport seenevery Sunday by AMERICA. Not black people, not white people,...but by anyone who has any type of interest in the sport of football. So of course if he slips up it was going to be put on a bigger scale than someone who is only noticed by a select group.
