No, I didnt say or imply that. I wish the young man well. Seriously. He's from the Southside. I live on the Southside.

Right.

On a serious note, I hope this 3-4 talk is just a lame attempt at misdirection. You do NOT have the personnel to run a 3-4. Those smallish LBs are gonna get exposed. And unless you have a NT that can command double and triple teams, you're gonna get run. Badly.

If they run a 3-4 we'll have at leat 250 yards rushing against them.

I see Mighty Hornet is still worried about our recruiting class. Will somebody please go find an article says ASU had a better recruiting class than JSU. Sheeesh. He is worried about a kid that might not hit the field until 2011.

Maybe his football team should worry about crossing the 50 first and then worry about red shirt players when they hit the field.

The first official Jackson State football practice featured plenty of enthusiasm and one extremely scary moment during the session that lasted just over two hours - and that was without a single football brought onto the field.

The coaching staff put players through a conditioning session that included a timed mile run before heading to the weight room for 225-pound bench presses.

"I wanted to see what they had, who worked out this summer," coach Rick Comegy said. "I see some excitement. That feeling of accomplishment ... we had to have that at the start before we do anything."

Strength coach Derek Scott signaled the beginning at 4 p.m. by shouting, "It's time to go to work!"

Linemen, who were broken into two groups, had to finish the mile run in under 9 1/2 minutes. Defensive end Javarius Conner led all linemen with a time of 7:11, but it was offensive lineman Terrael Williams who was the talk of the day. At 6 feet 8, 350 pounds, Williams' size has been tantalizing to fans and coaches alike. His conditioning and mental approach have been in question. Williams had everyone roaring when he was the fourth among the second group, finishing in 9:07. He pointed to the sky and flexed both arms immediately afterward. Less than 20 minutes later, he would put up 225 pounds 22 times in the weight room.

"The (mile) was a surprise ... I wasn't expecting it," Williams said. "But my workout consisted of a four-day workout, twice a day."

Freshman linebacker Mike Hill (Murrah) was the top skill position player with a time of 5:20, but the collapse of quarterback Tray Rutland put a slight damper on the day.

Rutland crossed the finish line, took a few steps and fell into the arms of teammates and coaches. After a brief commotion, Rutland was laid on the ground. An ambulance arrived shortly thereafter. Apparently, Rutland had some flu-like symptoms beforehand and was dehydrated. He is expected to be fine, but will sit out today's practice. Rutland was not taken to the hospital.

Hey fellas, I wish a speedy recovery for Rutland so please let me know when he recovers, I'd like to comment. Thanks.

Damn, Cleo you really want this kid to be out so that tissue can have a chance of beating us. You are pathetic. I can see right through your cloudy shat.

He's fine. Just mild dehydration from having the flu all week. He never even got in that ambulance. The coaches are holding him out today as a precautionary measure.

Calm down tomcat....

Damn, all I wanted to ask was if he was wearing football cleats, track spikes, waffle racers or regular jogging shoes.

He could have tripped at the finish line or something. Damn! Chill out. :D

Don't put that on North Jackson..... we don't raise em like that......he is one of them ATL area boys.

, I was just asking since GR alway say those Northern Boys make soft football players, and TR did faint.............well I'm just checking.:noidea:

Opener tickets on sale today
Kareem Copeland • [email protected] • August 8, 2009

Fans wanting to buy tickets to the season opener at Mississippi State have one last chance today. The tickets will be sold at the JSU Tiger Bash beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the JSU Student Center Ballroom A (on the third floor). Those interested also must purchase a season ticket. Only cash will be accepted for the $43 ticket.

Sales have been less than anticipated as only 1,500 of the allotted 2,500 have been sold. Any unsold tickets will be returned to Mississippi State on Monday.

Athletic director Bob Braddy said he doesn't plan to extend the deadline as JSU is responsible for the cost of any remaining tickets.

"I'm not willing to take that risk," Braddy said. "I haven't had any reason to extend it.

"It is what it is."
