Urban Meyer gets raise to $4 million annually

Florida coach Urban Meyer speaks to the media during … .By MARK LONG, AP Sports Writer Mark Long, Ap Sports Writer – 16 mins ago

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida coach Urban Meyer has two national championships in the last three years and the same number of raises.

Meyer signed a six-year contract Monday worth $4 million annually, up from $3.25 million, after leading the Gators to the national title in January. The new deal makes Meyer the highest-paid coach in the Southeastern Conference — at least for now.....

Alabama's Nick Saban, scheduled to make $3.9 million this season, is reportedly negotiating a contract extension. And LSU's Les Miles has a clause in his contract that guarantees him $1,000 more than any coach in the league if he leads the Tigers to a national championship.

"Coach Meyer has certainly proven to be one of the top college football coaches in the country and should be compensated as such," athletic director Jeremy Foley said in a statement. "We are proud he is our coach and we appreciate all that he has done for the Gators."
.........

He deserves every penny. Winning 2 national titles in 4 years, and being heavily favored to win another one this season, they had to complete this deal to hush up all of the Notre Dame talks. The University of Florida has one the top and richest athletic programs in the country.

Well.
He deserves it cause he bring's in a shat load of money to Florida everyday.

Somebody once posted on another thread about programs like these never being really worried about operating in the red.
In these hard economic times, these mofo's just spend more money on salaries and facilities instead of cutting back.

SEC Coaches pay.
Houston Nutt is ranked 12th national and 6th in the SEC in pay.
Ole Miss Boosters are paying NUTT $2.3 million of his salary.
Ole Miss only pay's $200,000 in base pay.
Tell me again about Ole Miss and Miss. State "not having money" when they need it.

Clarion Ledger Aug. 4, 2009
OXFORD — Florida coach Urban Meyer is now the richest coach in the Southeastern Conference after signing a six-year extension worth $4 million per year.
And while Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt's $2.5 million salary isn't close to that, it certainly holds its own in the ultra-competitive world of high-stakes college football.
Nutt's salary is tied for 12th in the nation out of 120 programs in the Football Bowl Subdivision, according to a list from the Orlando Sentinel. The coach is tied with Michigan's Rich Rodriguez, Florida State's Bobby Bowden and Missouri's Gary Pinkel.
In the SEC, Nutt's salary ranks right in the middle at No. 6 out of the league's 12 coaches.
Meyer, Alabama's Nick Saban ($3.9 million), LSU's Les Miles ($3.8 million), Arkansas' Bobby Petrino ($2.9 million) and Georgia's Mark Richt ($2.8 million) all make more than Nutt.
Tennessee's Lane Kiffin ($2 million), Auburn's Gene Chizik ($2 million), South Carolina's Steve Spurrier ($1.8 million), Kentucky's Rich Brooks ($1.25 million), Mississippi State's Dan Mullen ($1.2 million) and Vanderbilt's Bobby Johnson ($1.1 million) all make less than Nutt.

Only $200,000 of Nutt's salary is paid for by the state. The other $2.3 million is subsidized by the UMAA Foundation.

...Only $200,000 of Nutt's salary is paid for by the state. The other $2.3 million is subsidized by the UMAA Foundation.
And that is the key.

I have a guy that I work with who is a big UF alumn and he tells me that ALL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS (that for all sports in both genders) are funded forever. Between trusts, endowments and such, they are covered as long as the university exists without having to contribute another dime.

Man, we need to send our AD's over to UF for a how to run an athletic department workshop.

Man, we need to send our AD's over to UF for a how to run an athletic department workshop.
Before we send them over there, we (alumni, businesses, estates, etc.) need to dump millions of dollars into the athletic budgets at our schools. Otherwise, the conversations will be very short.

Comegy's salary is actually within range of some of the ones at the bottom of that list. Not sure how I feel about that.

Then this is gonna be a dang short convo.

Mississippi State and Ole Miss just spent $6 million apeice on JUMBOTRONS.
Ole Miss spent $6 million on theirs and not to be outdone, Mississippi State spent $6.1 million on theirs beating Ole Miss out for the 2nd largest Jumbotron in the nation.
THAT'S ONLY $400,000 SHORT OF JSU ENTIRE ATHLETIC BUDGET.

Texas Jumbotron is #1.
The people in those booster clubs got money to burn and then some.

You feel bad...and you feel bad because you better understand the scope of what we are competing against in trying to improve facilities, recruit both coaches and players, and actually be on the same levels with the big boys.

Florida is like it is because they had leaders that made good decisions with the money. They knew how to invest their money in certain projects that made them a great academic institution and an excellent athletic school.

Jeremy Foley made some excellent hires during his time, Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer (football), Billy Donovan (basketball), Mary Wise (volleyball), Kevin O'Sullivan (baseball), Tom Walton (softball), and many more. Hiring people that know how to build a winning program and generate interest, and knowing when to get rid of those that don't (Ron Zook) is the reason why the Florida boosters were so eager to donate a ton of money to their athletic programs.

If Southern adopted that principle, hire energetic coaches that know how to win and get rid of those that continue to produce losing teams, I guarantee we would dominate the SWAC.

Why are the Gators practicing at 5 a.m.? Not that serious, gang. I remember Salter used to make us practice at 6 a.m. Until they start playing games that early there is no need to practice that early.

We want to show everyone that we are not overlooking any game. We are serious about trying to win another championship!
