The 2009 SWAC football season will be one for the record books!!! There will be heartbreak and alot of surprises. I want to give some of my thoughts on the upcoming season. Tell me what you think!!!

Western Division

1) Southern Jaguars:
The jaguars are poised for a return to the top of the SWAC Western Division. They have the best offensive player in the league in QB Bryant Lee. The best WR in Jammorius Stewart. And the best coach. Some guy named Pete Richardson. The key to the Jags offense will be the ability of the offensive line to keep Lee upright and healthy. As good as he has been he has been hurt as long as he has been on campus. A better running game would be real healthy for the Jaguars.

The Dog Day Defense is over due for a re-emergence in the SWAC. if the DDD can get back to hitting hard and raising all kinds of hell, then the jags will be hard to deal with in 2009.

2) Grambling State Tigers:
Im picking the Tigers to finish second in the west because i think they will lose the Bayou Classic on Thanksgiving weekend. The tigers have one of the best defenses in the country. not just the swac!!!! the tigers are not a great passing offense so that could be there only hang-up in the 2009 season. However as we all know in the Bayou anything can happen... Its gonna be a hard time for swac offenses to score points on the Tigers.

3)Texas Southern Tigers:
Ole Johnnie Ray Cole is at it again... He is reviving another downtrodden football program. This time its his own alma mater. The Cole Blooded Offense or HOBO was in and out of gear in 2008. Bobby Reid pressed hard early in the season because he felt he had alot to prove in a short period time. I think this will be a better year for the Tiger offense because new QB Arvell Nelson will not be under any pressure. He will have all american WR Osbourne to throw to. RB Marcus Wright was very consistent as a freshman in 2008!! For most of the players it will be year 2 in the HOBO offense. And everyone in the swac knows what that means.
The Tiger defense will be under the guidence of new Def Coordinator Kevin Ramsey. He has been the DC at Georgia and Carson Newman. He has had other d1 stops and in the NFL>>>

4) Prairie View A&M Panthers :
The panthers picked a bad year to be hurting in 2 key spots. QB and MLB. The panthers will have a hard time replacing All American ZAck East in the middle and a 2 year starter under center. The three teams ahead of the panthers all present problems for PV. Texas Southern will be gunning for the panthers on labor day. The HOBO offense is not the system u want to break in a new MLB. Southern's offense is also dangerous for a defense looking for new leaders. The State Fair Classic will be the stick by which PV's season is always measured. If the panthers offense cant get in gear it will be a long night in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl...

5) Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions:
The Golden Lions need OFFENSE plain and simple>>> They will join the many teams switching to the spread of some sort. The Lions brought in a slew of receivers to assist with the transition. The golden lions have always ran the ball well but just have not meshed well timing wise in the pass game. Mickey Dean will still need to get 20-25 touches every game for this team to be successful.

1) S

I stopped right there

It is not too far off base to predict SU to win. While GSU is the overwhelming favorite, SU will have the most explosive offense(As long as the Offensive Coordinator lets them) in the SWAC. If the defense can hold teams to under 21 points, anything can happen. I reinterate, GSU should be the overwhelming favorite, but it is not out of the realm of possibility that SU can dethrone them.

I'm going to play it safe and say 1) GSU 2)PV and 3) SU. GSU and PVU will have a better defense then SU, but not on the offense side of the ball.

I'll say this and be done with it. Gram will win the west as long as we stay healthy. I don't really like giving opinions on this because most people think their team will be the top team in the end. Now some know not to comment because they reallyyyy don't have a chance. It will be very intersting to watch how this thread plays out. The jury is still out on my boy Pete though. I'm just curious to know if his time is really up. Some of you need to go ahead and comment now because before long some of you will be silenced.

Grambling's offense will be one of the tops in the league... at the end of last season, Greg Dillon was the best qb in the league.

Darren Prentiss is going to be a problem :read:

He play in the secondary right? They snatched one of the top DBs in the state of MS, and in the state of TX. *shrugs* Does Graves know how to utilize talent? NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

But Jackie does, do not be surprised if things do not go right early on the defensive side of the ball Pete's godson takes a bigger role in defensive scheme. I saw it with my own eyes a during a practice session in April the players respond to him more than Graves.

Yes they do. Jackie is going to be a outstanding coach, and hopefull Pete will let him take more control.

If Pete let Jackie take control of his unit then our young secondary would be dangerous and SU will finish 3rd again this year. :read: :read: :read: :D
