Letter to GSU Tuba/Sousaphone Section Members

05 bones were not that great......Mr. Lacy and Mr. Hendrix COMBINED are runining things as far as bones......but back to the bones......coming from a guy that followed the bone section at Grambling long before he was in it......under Shaun (the most recent leader) the section had a cleaner, more precise sound. In 01......not good at all....more hangovers than a drunk man.....02 was pretty good aside from occasional loss of tempo......03 was solid....04 was good and really shoulda been on this list.....05 was sloppy as all get out.....06 was the same....07 was more together, but due to numbers sacrificed volume.....same with 08....now I don't know what yall had goin on when yall were at Grambling, but today, we are focusing on an improved sound....and if you ain't never worn a WORLD FAMED UNIFORM.......ALL YALL OUTSIDE LOOKIN IN INDIVIDUALS......DON'T COMMENT.......SWEEP AROUND YO OWN FRONT DOOR BEFORE YOU TRY TO SWEEP AROUND MINE....

I am that "one man's" private student........let me tell you what one man did.....one man took the band that was most criticized in the WORLD and produced a machine in 08......the even number years had been bad for Grambling.....02.....nasty sound....04...huge band not as good as it coulda been.....06 huge piece of mess......08.........opened the SWACs eyes a bit more than 07 did.....not to mention the inaugural parade....sure in your day you may have done them too....but this was today's hot ticket...and GSU was in that this year......they heard our sound clip and chose us......legacy played some role but give credit where it belongs.....yall old heads kill the present band with this whole "when I marched thing" tubas may have been powerful, but as a collector of GSU footage, I promise you some of the same things yall scrutinize us on, yall did. Half marching....half playin.....trust it happened. So we are turning things around......if you AS AN ALUMNI have an issue with the band......come to Grambling, stand before the band and open your mouth, cause doing it on here ain't gonna accomplish nothin. It just makes you another one of our many critics.....and you shouldn't want that. As far as the Tubas.......if you can do better....or your flock of Tuba players for that matter......come in and help.....talkin don't accomplish nothin.....I've seen footage of older tuba sections that didn't quite cut it either.....Do you even know the current section leader? Invest yo time and u may have known old school.....now I love those who paved my way, but this is just sad. Tubas sounded good.....not as loud as you wanted them, but 10 did what 10 could.......so yall power focusers can go kill yoselves....from a PRESENT WORLD FAMED MEMBER.....Trombonist to be exact......SL Fall 2009....

10 was a PERFECT BALANCE for GSU in '08.

As a tuba player and JSU alumna, let me say that almost all of the SWAC & MEAC bands (I get to hear both sets) have been WAY TOO BASS heavy for the last 25 years. Combined with the stupid morass of screaming for no real reason on the top, the sound has been a hot mess for a while ... a LONG while.

And in case you are wondering, the proper ratio is about one tuba for 20 of each of the other instruments for a balanced sound.

Please! The bones since 06 have not been above a C level! Please dude. Your youth shows in this post. You need to worry about todays band!

I am a firm believer in "knowing where I came from to proceed to the future"....ask any DVD dealer on this website or any other one.......plus I been watching them in person since 01......I have studied under some of the best and one of those is Mr. Hendrix.........ur his friend.......ask his opinion on them all......they will match mine.....and he is a BAND DIRECTOR THERE.......

Nasty sound sir......nasty sound.......tempo issues.....intonation......missin notes left and right.......nastiest battles ever.....but nasty is what yall apparently like....but this is about the tubas.........to the ALUMNI on here.....simply show yo face in the bandroom and say what you feel......being on this site ain't gettin it done....

Man please! You are young and trippin! The GSU Trombones were much better from 2000 to 2005 then they are now. You guys have been weak as hell the last few years! You might want to calm down and worry about this year bone section. I am not far away, I would rather tell you the truth about todays T-Bones section in person instead of this board.

And as SL....I would rather hear your OPINION in person....just as long as u understand that I will run it as planned, and based on what the powers that be find appropriate. So.....u let me worry bout mines. This board mean nothin. So leave it alone.

LMFAO! Ok young brother. We will talk one on one. All of that " I will run it as planned " stuff will not be a factor and will mean nothing to what I have to say to you. " If " you are the real section leader, I will make it my point to talk to you before the season starts due to the sections track record. You run it how you want to, but once you see me and we talk one on one, you learn just how much my word means to Doc, Spencer, T, Lacy and Hendrix. Be cool bro.
