They can say what they want about you JayRob and we've had our differences too, but you never made a more truer statement than you just did.
From the time we picked up a baseball and a bat, a basketball and some shorts, a football and a wristband, well before we got into organized sports, no matter what the end result was in the backyard or in the field we shook the opposing teams hand and we did it not because anyone directly told us to but because this is what we saw our sports heroes do.
BTW don't take the bait, them Kobe haters are just trying to change the subject, That azz whuppin must have been worst than we thought. :lol: Hell I'd hate to see how they act if Kobe had kicked dat azz. :lmao:

Then you want an athlete to be "human" and show civility after losing? :lol:
If you have said that or thought it or posted that idea on a sports message board, you can't criticize LeBron or any other athlete for a lack of sportmanship.

I never said you posted anything on here about athletes behavior on this message board. It could have been at home or watching TV or talking to someone else.
But the overall tenor of the statement is true to a degree. If anyone says that athletes off the field or in some cases on the field behavior does not matter, you can't be critical of an athlete for doing something like James did.
You can't do it.
And if you consider professional sports "entertainment" and not that serious, you can't be critical of James either. Because if it is "entertainment" nothing an athlete does should bother you, right?

Just curious, what do you guys think of Kobe and Magic's take on LeBron in last night's interview... They both said they understood where LeBron was coming from and too much is being made of it....
My personal opinion is I think too much is being made of it... Should he have have shaken hands, that is on him. I have seen many a player do the exact same thing, and to be honest I think too much is being made of it... Ever wondered why baseball teams don't shake hands after a game or series? not even the World Series... Just food for thought...

Yeah, too much is being made of it. I though LeBron should have shaken hands, but it was no big deal to me. To read some of the comments from people and watch Youtube videos of people cussin' out LeBron was way over the top, man.
As far as baseball goes, they have never done it. I don't know why, however. I do know back in the day that players like Bob Gibson and Nolan Ryan and other old heads did not talk to opposing players before, after or during the game.
I have heard stories that those guys would get really upset if they found out one of their teammates was engaging in a conversation with a member of the Cubs, Dodgers or any other team. They took the outcome of the game personally back then.

Well lets see one of them do that after the NBA Champion hsa been crowned. None of them would dare try that and get lighter in the checkbook.
As for baseball teams not doing it. I guess they look at like it's 160 game season and only 4 teams in each league make the playoffs. You can be friends afterthe season is over.

I don't think as much as much is being made out of it as is not showing up for the post game interview, that's why Stern did an about face on imposing the fine because I'm sure the union let him know what can of worms he was opening up.
Where in any other aspect of life outside of sports do we see people congradulating each other following competitive situations?
I mean, does the manager at Sal's used car dealer shake hands with the manager of Mike's used car dealership down the street after being beaten in sales for the quarter?
Does Robert Iger of ABC give dap to Dick Ebersol at NBC after losing in the ratings war?
