Um a lie, you do you that every and I mean every US Army contract is managed and connected to Redstone don't you? You do know that Huntsville is the Rocket city? That we put the world on the moon? Sorry to hurt you.

 And every US Army, Navy, Marine, and Air Force contract is some how connected to the Pentagon which is located in the DMV. The Pentagon alone employs over 23,000 people. :lmao:

So Huntsville has a large NASA presence. That's great. The DMV has FBI, State Department, Secret Service, CIA, DISA, JTF-GNO, NSA, NRL, DOJ, ICE, TSA, Mint, Patent, MDA, and DHS to name a few. And your talking about hurting me. Man get out of here. I can't believe this dude is trying to compare Huntsville to the DMV.

thank you... Don't forget (my hopeful soon-to-be employer), the USDA... the USDA has about ten branches up here alone..

Yes, USDA is a large employer up here. Also the Census Bureau, DEA, DOT, DOE, Library of Congress, Smithsonian Museums, etc. Heck I haven't even mention the military bases like Quantico, Ft. Belvoir, Pax River, Navy Yard, and Norfolk. I work at a lesser known base in Dahlgren, VA for NAVSEA and we have over 5k employees. When it comes to government and government contractor jobs, no place in the US can touch the DMV. Cee is talking about Huntsville. :lmao:

racism???? segregation probably but Ive lived here for years...not sure where the racism comes in. Now SEGREGATION... but not sure about the racism part. Racism is everywhere dont see anything different here... White folks stay in South Huntsville... Black folks stay in North Huntsville... difference between most cities is North Huntsville doesnt look like an average "Black side of town".... Now it definitely aint no South Huntsville but compared to most Black side of towns Ive been to in many cities...its "different". What white folks consider "hood" here is a middle class neighborhood in any other inner city. Its not an area here, I dont feel comfortable in. Plus crime and violence is low. I think we had only 7 or 8 homocides last year... that is great for a city this size.

You are right CJ, I stay on the South Side of Huntsville and it is nice, there may be some prejudices but the racism is not nearly as bad as in some other areas. There are many jobs available and the police harass everybody not just black folks

Damn can Huntsville have its shine????

Good shat Bama!

~walks out~

 Well said man. Huntsville may not be a diamond, but at least someone thinks it's a shiny rock.

If I can go to a decent place like Huntsville and get job while folks are being laid-off everywhere else, I think I'd take it.

Good job Huntsville.

I always notice that people throw out Huntsville when referring to Government or High-Tech jobs. What are the prospects for other industries? I am not considering Huntsville, but I was curious to know since none of the major companies in my industry (Insurance) has an office there to my knowledge.

 That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Rep yo city! lol

LOL, i can't take credit for Vegas being mines per se, Bham is mines...:D but it sholl became my home away from home and the place that I built lasting friendships during my A&M tenure, and i'd have no problems taking it back there if and when I decided to settle and sat my ass down. :emlaugh:

Can't hate on Huntsville. It has the second largest research park in America. The jobs are plentiful. I'm not just saying that because I use to live there.

BILBREW, Huntsville is a big DOD and a big engineering town, now it's more diverse than what it was when I came here in 89, but the major employers are DOD and any type of engineering firm you can name. We do have auto and manufacturing industries such as Toyota, Navistar, Delphi, LG, Verizon and other industries like that, but if you are on the business side of things you usually work at one of those companies. Now I do know a bunch of folks working for ALL State, State Farm and places like that, but I don't really know any major headquarters like that here, but with us having the second largest research park in the USA, I'm sure some are here. There us to be a saying here that six out of every ten folks you meet here are engineers.

I guess those of us who aren't engineers are screwed then

My former employer (Allstate) only has one Claims office in Alabama which is in Birmingham. If I am not mistaken, I think the main State Farm office in Alabama is in Birmingham as well. My current company doesn't write business in Alabama at all, but it is a much smaller company.

I wasn't trying to down Huntsville, but I has always found it odd that people try to sell it without taking someone's occupation into consideration.

yes I believe State Farm main office is in Bham, not 100% if its the main, but its one there. I've always heard people sell Huntsville for its missile defense, engineering, and aerospace industries, thats exactly how the article starts off as well so they are taking occupations into consideration, for those people because those are the industries that dominate.
