Bush-era energy drilling leases in Utah canceled

In its first action to overturn Bush administration policies on energy, the Obama administration on Wednesday said it will cancel oil drilling leases on more than 130,000 acres near two national parks and other protected areas in Utah.

"In the last weeks in office, the Bush administration rushed ahead to sell oil and gas leases near some of our nation's most precious landscapes in Utah," Interior Secretary Ken Salazar told reporters. "“We need to responsibly develop our oil and gas supplies to help us reduce our dependence on foreign oil, but we must do so in a thoughtful and balanced way that allows us to protect our signature landscapes and cultural resources."

"We will take time and a fresh look at these 77 parcels to see if they are appropriate for oil and gas development," he said, adding that the Bureau of Land Management will return the $6 million in bids from an auction last December.

Rest story

Oil...Coal, Apples and oranges...jeez, please at least stay on topic. Nobody want to see that empty rhetoric...:shame:

The subject was in reference to the energy policy and I posted a fact in reference to the subject. We do use coal as a natural resource to generate energy.

Everything in NATURE is a natural resource to generate energy, such as wind, solar, natural gas, running water, compost, manure, landfill gas, etc. Why are we so stuck on oil drilling?

Right, and oil in a finite, as in can cease to exist, resource. I will not sustain an oligarchy...

Somehow RB starts talking about coal being a natural resource when the article is about drilling leases for oil. I truly believe his beyond the state of confusion. He’s in a serious state of make believed.

.........because we spend $700 billion a year importing it when we have it in our back yard. Why should I have to import a Toyota from Japan, when there is a dealership down the street?

There is not one environmentalist that can tell you exactly how much oil is under the USA. IMO, we will never run out of natural resources. There will always be enough air, water, sunlight, and etc. The person responsible for providing natural resources on this earth is God. The environmentalist are not God, therefore it's insane to say oil is running out. Who are we to make such a bold statement. It won't be too long before y'all start saying the ocean is turning into vapor, and all the rivers are drying up. It won't be too long before y'all start saying the sun can't produce heat like it use to. It's amazing what people fall for without using discernment.

Then what is your point for coal being a natural resource to generate energy. Coal in this country is plentiful and is not imported. Instead of maintaining our dependency of oil, maybe we need to switch to other natural resources.

Do you know how oil is made?

I do believe I read somewhere that too much of one thing is not good for you. You definitely need to read the very short book, "Who Moved My Cheese" by Spencer Johnson, MD. The two humans almost died because they refused to allow their natural instincts to kick-in to find other food source.

I was referring to oil being imported and using Toyota as an example. As for coal, Obama and Dems are doing everthing they can to handicap our natural resources. It won't be too long before they tell our military to stop flying jets because they use too much oil, and decommission the carriers because we can't take the risk of a nuclear accident.

It's sad that not all people have military survival training. Having said that, it appears these two just didn't use common sense. God gives this to everybody but not all use it.

Yes, too much of one thing is bad for you, however not having enough of a good thing is bad for you as well. I say we should do all of the above. We should use all of our resources for the betterment of the people.

Do you know how many things He created is no longer in existence?

No human being knows the answer to that question. In fact, God stated that humans can't even count all the stars in the sky, therefore how could they possibly count something that no longer exists?
