Why do some of you blame the SWAC for...

JR,

Can you explain this statement for me please?

What are the risks honestly? And I'm not saying this to be funny, be practical. The BC is an annual event that has drawn its own crowd that will come regardless of when the date is...kinda like TSU vs. JSU in Memphis! Neither of our games sell out like they used to, but we still have a very strong fan base that attend those games...at least enough where can make an obvious profit.

So please elaborate on the risks that you (may) possibly incur! :lecture:

Let me break it down to you.

1. When the BC has not been on that weekend the attendance was down. I was in school in the band for at least one of them and you could tell the difference.

2. People travel back home on Thanksgiving more than any holiday. That is most traveled holiday.(One reason I don't understand FCS even having their playoffs start that weekend)....anyway a lot of SU and Gram alums travel back to La for the holiday and game because they are off work. Some for the only time they even come back to the boot. Folks are not going to give up coming home for the holiday to come a week early. Most people don't have it like that. I bet you money if JSU and Alcorn played on Thanksgiving like they used too......Memorial would be wall to wall with folks.

3. The next risk is NBC televising the game. You remember Notre Dame is their big college game broadcast. You run the risk of the BC being on the same day and time every other year that a ND home game is and guess who will be off the air.........shole won't be ND.

4. You take away something that is ours.....historic in nature just to do what......get an auto bid to the playoffs? Games that nobody watches. Do you realize how many students not athletes but regular students that the BC being seen on that weekend pretty much on a light NCAA football day generates each year for both schools and puts a positive stamp on all our SWAC schools?

5. Alienate your real hard core Alums and fans. I keep telling yall on this board that you folks who want the playoffs don't speak for the majority of your alumni base or fan base. I suggest yall take a poll within the JSU alumni association across the country and ask them do they want to see JSU play in the playoffs or move the Alcorn game back to Thanksgiving week. I bet I know which one wins. Hell none of our schools can get our fan bases to even hardly show up when we play those type of teams. So guess what that hurts is the financial bottom line.

6. Before anybody uses FLorida A&M and Bethune Cookman. Because FLorida is a huge state with more people than La or Ms.........they can attract more fans that are local to their game no matter when they play it. Not to mention I imagine alot of their alums are still in that state compared to how many Gram alums live outside of La. Same for SU. Plus I don't think their game ever was designed for any particular date in mind. They have done a good job promoting that Classic. But I still would bet if they played their game the same weekend we played the Classic......that stadium would overflow even more than it does now.

CEE.
DO YOU HONESTLY THAT EVERY SCHOOL AND CONFERENCE IN FCS IS GONNA REDO THEIR PLAYOFF SCHEDULE FOR US.:scared:

Seriously............I mean................SERIOUSLY!!!

Frat the schools don't have to do anything. All the FCS has to say is they will start the playoffs a week later after Thanksgiving and aint no school or conference going to say isht.

Because all the schools would welcome 2 weeks to prepare for their opponent
Especially late in the year when you have injuries.

So Gram and SU was willing to move the classic because of Tulane and LSU...Better yet forced to and the Classic also moved all the way to Houston do to a natural disaster and you guys telling us that it can't be moved a week before on the normal rilvary game weekend.LOL

How fical are SU and GRam fans to be so scared of a date change?

News flash. When people think of College football, NBC is the last thought on their minds so If the Buy you classic is on the only people watching the game are people who have a interest. YOu will not get the casual football fan so change the date.
Shoot most times I just happen upon a ND game on NBC. The Turkey Day classic is what it is. ASU aint no contender without cheating so you would have your cake and eat it too.

Wiggi, that's what I'm  about. The "Classics" are a STAPLE for BCF fans! TSU & JSU, JSU & Da Corn, A&M & ASU, PV & TSU, GSU & SU, and so on! Changing the date of the game WOULD NOT deter the average fan from attending. Hell, when they moved the game to Houston, they STILL had a large crowd. You could have the BC at the middle of the season and people would STILL come! WHY..because it's a staple. The name itself draws people.

So JSU and alcorn alumni can have a game the week before thanksgiving and still come to both. And FAMU and BCCU can too and still get their fans to come home but SU and Gram can't...Laughable.

Change the time of the game on the date with ND. It's Saturday aint nothing on and aint no parade or festivities going on in New Orleans so you guys would have to move to a later game time on those years.

Most fans don't want the playoffs because we have sold them on the SCG. If you pump it up they will understand. JSU fans along with other fans want a shot at the playoffs. And we can do it and not take away your beloved BC.

YOu guys basically said F the NCAA and the rest of your conference brotheren cause your too stuck in your ways to change.
I mean shoot the National title game use to be the 1st of the new year and now it's the 8th. It still sold out.

Shaw, you are showing your true colors. You just want us to move the game because you think JSU will be able to get there with an auto bid. You know your team will never be good enough to get an at large bid like they used to.

Well like I have told yall.........Go talk to Mason and your administration. They voted for the SCG. That's the game that is really keeping yall out of the playoffs. But since yall don't feel like your teams will be as good as those in the 80s and 90s, you want an auto bid so you don't have to worry about scheduling a tough schedule to win and get ranked like we used too. That's the real deal. Be honest. Or else yall would be camped out on Mason's doorstep along with the Blue Bengal's association demanding he take this up with the other 7 presidents to out vote the 3.

Gram, SU and Bama State aint your problem. It is your damn President and your alums who don't give JSU enough money to make the administration do what yall want. Actually they do........you just need to find out if your Big Money JSU alums even support going to the playoffs. Because yall on this board obviously have no clout with Mason or you would stop beyotching at SU, Gram and Bama State about moving our games when it is your own school's fault. Not ours.

Dude call Mason and see what he has to say. It aint the BC that is stopping yall. Tell him to vote to do away with the SCG.

SU and Gram fans and alums aint going to go beyotching to our schools to move the BC. Maybe the MEAC will let yall go join it, if you can convince your Prez to leave the conference.

How much money do JSU and Alcorn make on the game?

Isn't Alcorn trying to move the game to their campus every other year?

Obviously less folks attend that classic if that is the case.

JR who bitching. JSU and none of us will have a playoff caliber team as long as we continue to just play each other. DIIs and get drug against FBS teams.
It's not just JSU becuase with qaulity coaches any of us can be competitive in the playoffs.

Being elible for the playoffs gives our conference credibility. The IVY league is on an entirely different level. But in Major College Football down to DIII they all play for some type of National Title. But three teams with small minds have pretty much dictated that we just settle for the SCG...

Mason can vote all he wants too but the rest of these presidents are clueless. Sheesh A &M doesn't even have a president. Man you act like we are dealing with sane administrators. The cats don't care about the 1% of their budgets. Even thought that 1% keeps enrollment up.

Man keep playing in the buyou classic. A million dollars aint worth what it use to be and at some point the luster of the same old same old will fade. Even with NBC...

OK.
Let's all wait for the power's that be in FCS to move their show for us.

JR, but it's not just Mason or JSU. What good would it do for us to scrap the SCG and SU & Gram still not move the date of the BC? That's not smart at all. You proper plan before implementing changes! :lecture:

How much money do JSU and Alcorn make on the game?

Isn't Alcorn trying to move the game to their campus every other year?

Obviously less folks attend that classic if that is the case.

Less people attend the classic because of Bell, then both teams have been losing until recent years. They can move the game back to Lorman if they want too. It will just mean more money for jSU evey other year.
The attendance has nothing to do with that date cause it been that way for the longest.

YOu guys keep harpering on your fical fans and it has to be on the same day evey year. So be it. It's the rest of our presidents fault that SU and GRAM scared to lose a few fans. If the sponsorship is what you say it is then attendance should not be a factor cause you will still get your million dollar payday. And JR if SU had some big money donors you would need BC attendance.

Basically SU and Gram's athletic budgets would suffer with a 1 week change in a historic traditionla rivalry game...LOL

Again the SHC is not on the same weekend every year yet Memphis makes out like bandits and 50+ always shows up...

Nope....c _ _ _ ish! :shame: :lmao:

Nope C_ _ _ ish is yall being scared to voice your opinion your own damn President and then lead a rally to generate support from your top alums and boosters that will convince him and your AD that this is something that the majority of JSU alums and fans want to see happen. Money talks. See I can tell most of yall don't talk to your President or have not had many interactions as Alums with top officials at your school to see what is the real mindset of your people. Once you do that, like Mighty Dog, C-Leb28 and SOG have said.......you would understand the dynamics you are working with and against.

Believe me I had a ton of ideas for SU when I first got out of school. After being active in our Houston alumni chapter as a VP and learning who the players are in the SU political machine then you find out what you need to know. Beyotching about it on TSPN aint going to help your cause. You are going to have to get many behind you and have some money to get their attention. That's how it is done at any school. Not just the SWAC. You have to get the masses and money behind your efforts. Until you do that. All this pointing the fingers at SU, Gram and Bama State is C_ _ _ish! I do believe Mason may be the longest sitting President in the SWAC right now. Ask him these questions on why he sits back and lets SU, Gram and Bama State run him. I would love to hear his answer back to you.

Uh that's what we mean. None of us have big money donors to give up the BC in its current format. Did you not read what I said my President would say to me if I even asked him that kind of question.

Also the SHC has history of not being on the same weekend.

Yall went to the playoffs 13 times with the BC where it is!! LOL

We don't have to change the date of that game... it is the SCG.

Now I know you are passionate and tryin to make a point, but ummm a million dollars against $10,000 is still a million dollars. I mean how would you propose to make up the loss of "a million dollars" versus moving a game, losing the tv slot, possibly not even being one of the teams that would be in contention to qualify for that one bid? Even today in this economy, a "million dollars" is still worth more that what one MIGHT make IF they are lucky enough to secure a home field game in the playoffs. Would you agree with that?

Mason does not let you guys run ish. Mason is an educator first. Athletics is not his calling card. You know this but you're playing dumb. Mason is there to make JSU a better University and he has invested in athletics but he surely doesn't let three schools that are academically inferior to JSU run him...

Yall went to the playoffs 13 times with the BC where it is!! LOL

We don't have to change the date of that game... it is the SCG.

Make sure you add they got their azz beat 13 times in the playoffs. They shouldn't ever want to go again. :emlaugh:

JR, but it's not just Mason or JSU. What good would it do for us to scrap the SCG and SU & Gram still not move the date of the BC? That's not smart at all. You proper plan before implementing changes! :lecture:

We never stopped yall from going to the playoffs before. The SCG got formed and made the entire SWAC ineligible.

Scrap the SCG and yall can go back to getting an at large bid. Hell they are expanding the field for the playoffs. It would be just like pre-99. JSU fields a great team and is ranked in the top 16. Off to the playoffs you go. If you are not a top 16 team, you probably do not need to be there anyway. Unlike basketball, cinderellas don't win in football to often.

Dumb response as related to the discussion.:smh:
The CCC is the week before the playoff's and the day before the playoff bid's go out.
Therefore we are not stopping anyone.
We have already done our part to make it work. :lmao:

Therefore your lame attempt to throw this back at me failed drastically.
We are not the playoff problem since we actually moved the SOUL BOWL from Thanksgiving Day way back in 1980.

Try a different tactic dude.
I have already said any discussion's of this type is a joke from now on but I will throw fact's up just for the fun of it.

My point is that one thing has nothing to do with the other. The BC and TDC is not stopping you from going to the playoffs. The SCG is. The JSU admin agreed to the SCG. This is what we have been trying to tell you from the start. Don't blame us...blame your own folk.

When you can accept this fact, you will be able to move forward.

You have been educated. No need to thank me.

Yall went to the playoffs 13 times with the BC where it is!! LOL

We don't have to change the date of that game... it is the SCG.

Dude the SCG was created to have post season play and the BC and turkey day classic. Had they voted on playoffs then their would never be a SCG.

SU or Gram or Bamma Jelly(lol cheaters) win the SWAC regular season and can't participate in the playoffs. So the Swac decided SCG that way we add two more teams split it up and play a championship. The the SWAC got extra sorry.

Thans BC and Turkey day massicure.

JR...give it up bruh. They understand, its just that facing the truth is too much for them to handle. The truth is that they got themselves to blame for this.

Make sure you add they got their azz beat 13 times in the playoffs. They shouldn't ever want to go again. :emlaugh:

Make sure to add you've never been and never will go. YOu will never know what it is to be ranked high in the polls and be considered a top program...

Ever....

There is talk on-going right now between SWAC/MEAC and one other party...if MEAC agrees - and they are looking at it hard now - neither of us will have an automatic bid because the Heritage Bowl will be back and it will commit both of our regular season champions to the Heritage Bowl - and the SCG will be over - plus 9 game mandate will be back in place.

Shaw and CS,

I'm with JR on this one. The BC and TDC are out of our control. Us diehard fans are in the minority. What we, as diehard fans, need to do is focus on what's in our control- getting in the AD's face and The President's face to put a better product on the field. An at-large bid is still possible. But only if we're good enough. If we can do that and be successful in the playoffs and prove that there's a benfit to it, then the presidents at Gram, SU and Bama State will take notice. But those classics are working out well for them right now and I can't blame them for not wanting to change the date. Not any real benefit to it for them at this point. Just my opinion on it.
