Man sues Microsoft over XBox defects

Remember last week's story about Jason Johnson, the Illinois man who sued Microsoft over his Xbox 360's alleged habit of scratching his game DVDs?
Documents unsealed in his court case revealed Microsoft discovered its Xbox 360 could scratch discs before it went on sale in 2005, and even got as far as considering three possible solutions to the problem, the Seattle Tech Report revealed today.
The characteristic circular scratches can occur whenever the orientation of the console -- which is designed to be used in either a horizontal or vertical position -- is changed while the drive is spinning. Johnson filed his suit after his console scratched three store-bought game discs, and is seeking $50,000 in punitive damages.

My son has had the regular xbox and the xbox 360...they both suck ass. I've had to send both of them back to the manufacturers to be fixed. We will not be purchasing anymore of their products. :tdown:

I have had my Xbox since 2003 and its still kicking. My nephews have the 360 and no problems with that one. I'm getting the 360 sometime next week.

He's never had any issues with any of his other gaming consoles, but those xbox products are the worse. I know of several other folks that had to send theirs back for repairs as well. Those things cost too much money to be breaking down and having malfunctions, all the time.

I remember a friend of mines bought the Xbox right when it came out. It didn't play CD's DVD's or anything and he had to send his back. That was in 2001 or 02. My PS2 is still going too!

yeah...they definitely had/have some defects within them. When I sent his xbox 360 back the lady told me that they had been receiving several calls about the same types of issues. :smh:

There was a design flaw in the Xbox 360 that caused up to one out of three to break. These repairs hit Microsoft over over $1 billion. The newer Xbox 360 don't have this design flaw as of about 6 months to 1 year ago I think. I've had mine for 2 years without needing repair.

They should have tested their product for at least a year before they mass marketed their product. It would save them a lot of bad publicity. But companies are caught up in that "want to be first on the market attitude".
