A Championship Game in Memorial...

Jackson State vs. Anyone -- atleast 50,000
Southern vs. Anyone -- atleast 50,000
Alcorn vs. Anyone (yall stop laughin lol) -- atleast 40,000
Valley vs. Anyone (yall... cut it out) -- atleast 35,000

For Grambling and UAPB you put the game considerably closer to their fan bases.

TXSO/PV/AAMU/ASU are the only schools that would have SOME kind of "travel issue" at that point and really (no smack) these schools don't travel well anyway and I really feel the local crowd would make up for the difference. But we won't know until we shop the game around a lil.

It may have been a good idea to try the SCG in a couple different sites from the outset, just to see what kind of feedback we got.

Shreveport/Houston even may have been the magic equation. Who knows.

At this point you can't say what any of the Texas schools would bring until one of them get there and you see what shows up. The last 2 years PV has played a game in California and the numbers were bigger than the SCG. With the number of years that AAMU/ASU has been there you would expect a bigger crowd from their end.

A few months ago we was talking about how the NCAA was going to take money that the Swac Championship makes...lol Yet our game was on ESPN Classic in a empty stadium w/ two TV guys that have been calling SWAC games forever and they still dont know jack about the schools or players..
On the flip side, the FCS playoffs was on regular espn and sold out. Annoucers knew all the players and they really did play by play and play review....
And we said the NCAA was after our championship money...lol
The SWAC championship could be in Miami w/ free tickets(game, airline) and free hotels and we still wouldnt have more then 40k in the staduim... Why? cause to be real their is no real intrest in the game... Everyone knew that Grambling was better then J state. Everyone know that the 07game was a fluke.
The Game want get any interest until some meaning is behind it. you cant keep having rematches that was whop sided in the first contest. and the season cant end with that game. I see The SWAC CG game gaining attendence if and only if we are playing against the FCS champion... or we talk another conference into having a championship game and having a bowl game... Problem we cant beat anyone outside the swac so the FCS champion isnt going to play us knowing we cant beat other losing FCS schools. And the playoffs work for other conferences...
I know in 01 (when the playoffs started after the bayou classic because of 911) we begged the SWAC to cancel the playoff and let us go to the playoffs..

If you must know. The SWAC gets money from ESPN to broadcast that game. It may not be much, but the conference does get something. The teams you mentioned in the playoffs on ESPN don't get jack. ESPN pays that money directly to the NCAA.

I would have to agree with you there. In fact I'll d one better and go as far to say that if any of the Texas schools make it to the SCG, it'll be close to sellout simply because of the historical nature it creates.

On a side note, you would think that after a decade of this game being in Bham, the SWAC office would have figure out by now that Bham just isn't the city to have this game at every year especially since they have the first SCG as a measuring stick.

But clearly they don't get it and sad to say, this is just another example of truly sad leadership at the top.

Having sad that I understand that the SWAC office decisin are affected by the schools Presidents input and with that in mind every time I talk on this subject all i see is all of them (SWAC Presidents and crew) rolling up to the games like the auto makers did when they first ask for a bailout.

It should be noted, especially during these economic and financial restraining times, that the SCG games makes a profit before a ticket is sold.

Not trying to get off the subject but which would you really want to have?
I would take playoff TV deal... Heck they didnt even show the highlights on sportscenter...
