Unsung on TVONE

How do you auto tune on Direct TV?

I know how it is done on Dish Network but I couldn't find a auto tune guide for Direct TV. I know how to use the record feature, but no auto tune. Dish Network has a auto tune without using the record feature.

You can search for the program by hitting the menu button, then highlight search and search by title and you can spell the program or...if the program is on you can hit info and select showings.

I can't wait to see the episode about DeBarge. Did you know Donny's other daughter was a background singer on American Idol?

Yeah I think they said something about it last year on American Idol when one those folks did one of his songs.

I finally caught the episode featuring Donny Hathaway. I had always wanted to know what caused those demons to get inside of him. I can only speculate that it was due to the pressure of the business. No one close to him mentioned anything about his struggles until he left Howard and began working for the major record labels.

nah bruh, he always had a mental condition. He used to take his medicine for it, but slowly stopped taking it.

I thought he only began to take medicine once his wife recognized he really needed help and had the Doctors to check it out?

See what I'm trying to figure is this. There was no mention of his mental condition being a distraction in the earlier periods of his life. How long did he have that condition? The problem seemed to be evident later in his career according to the documentary.

I believe (my opinion) that when someones mind is messed up, some event, situation, or whatever triggered that mind to open up and cause those demons to get in his head. I was trying to figure out the root of the problem. After watching the Documentary, I guess I still have unanswered questions.

I am sure there were signs when he was younger but folks especially people of color dont recognize mental illness or don't want to get help.

You are definitely right. I did not consider that. Back in the day, we thought Junebug was crazy, Pookie was off the chain, and Great Grandma had old age. Now we realize that Junebug was indeed a paranoid schizophrenia, Pookie had ADHD, and Great Grandma had Alzheimer's.

....I finally caught several of the shows tonight.

D.Hathaway, Clark Sisters, Debarge, and Phyllis Hyman. GOOD SHOWS!!! I learned a lot tonight. Phyllis Hyman my girl. I went in my cd collection and pulled out a cd I had of hers, because I started feelin it. I wish I had the CD with that up tempo song Yvette like, "you know how to love me".....that song be groovin'

I need to check out that Debarge again because I was interupted....the phone ranged. lol

"Snake"

I finally got a chance to watch the recent episodes about Minnie Riperton and Melba Moore. I really appreciate these untold stories. I am so looking forward to next week's feature on Shalamar. For so long, I've seen Jody Wately vent during interviews when referring to her time with Shalamar. I always wanted to know what really went down. Now we get a chance to see.

I recorded both but haven't gotten a chance to watch them. Maybe I will check them out tonight.

Both stories were really sad. I didn't know all that happened to Melba Moore, she has been to hell and back. I shedded a few tears at Minnie Riperton's story. Her 5-octave voice was truly amazing. She was definitely underrated during her time.

Now I really liked the feature on Shalamar because it was not depressing at all. LOL!

What happened with them was typical of most groups back in the day...being spoiled by immediate success...egos....record execs tripping (Ol Dick Griffey's persona reminded me of his former protegee Suge Knight) and so on...they had their time and did their thang and it was cool....

I can feel Jody's pain and I now understand the baggage she's had with the group. Still, life is too short. Even if she never chooses to be a part of any Shalamar reunion, it would be healthier for her if she just let bygones be bygones....she had more success than anyone after Shalamar which proves her value to the group...

steps away from the computer to sing to his wife again...Get ready, Tonight...gonna make this a night to remember...

The episode on Minnie Riperton was deep. She was involved in different variations of music. Her music is what people call neo soul is based on. That group "Rotary Connection" was cold. Their version of "Respect" was something else. I would here music from them and other groups from the "psychedelic soul" era but didn't know what it was, but it always stood out. I knew Minnie Riperton was being sampled but not to that extent. Rotary Connection is heavily sampled as well:

Good Story last night. It seemed to me that alot more went on with this group and they just put a good face on it. What I didn't know is that Shalamar went through all those member changes. I need to find their greatest hits.
