Is anyone watching? The lineup is below:

The Clark Sisters
hyllis Hyman
Donny Hathaway
Debarge

I watched the show last night and they did a show on Donny Hathaway. I didn't know he was schizophrenic and allegedly committed suicide. That brother was talented. Tonight they're showing 'Debarge'.

It's about time somebody posted something about this show (please don't get sensative). It's excellent. I saw the Clark Sisters and DeBarge. I have a new respect for DeBarge. I just thought they were a bunch of pretty boys. I haven't listened to their music in years. I forgot how good they sounded. And the funny thing about it, back then they would have been considered average. I had to get "Stay With Me" when the show was over with. But it goes to show you, you never know what someone is going through so we shouldn't be so quick to pass judgement.

Good point phrat. I saw the episode about DeBarge as well. I thought for sure Chico and James were the same person. Bunny was fine as hell back then too. :ebrow: I thought El was with Switch too.

Anywho...didn't know they were as talented as they were until I saw the episode.

I saw the one about Bro. Hathaway as well. Man, I gotta find his box set now. Donny was on some other stuff back then.

True!

I can't wait to see the episode about DeBarge. Did you know Donny's other daughter was a background singer on American Idol?

I've been watching and have really enjoyed the series!
I especially enjoyed watching the Clark Sisters. The things they talked about were very candid and the truth about our church. The Clark Sisters and their mother (Mattie Moss Clark) are SUPER famous in my demonination!!!! Every year at convocation in Memphis, they are something to see! Dorinda is vice president of the mass choir. So these girls are following in their mom's steps.

I watched the Clark Sisters also and it was very good! Also, the one on Phyllis Hyman was good also. She really was dealing with some issues...

watched Donny last night. Hope to catch Debarge tonight.

Debarge was on fire backin the day. Man El got some hits and Chicos' first album was the ish..

I use to get James and chico mixed up too.

Dayum, u beat me to this topic.

But yeah, I watched the one on Phyllis Hyman. Very insightful and she was one of my favorite singers back in the day.........still is. And I always wanted to drill to that song "You know how to love me." Straight drill song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoOp0UjNXBI

And I'm too through with Clive Davis for trying to make her into a pop star like Whitney, then dropped her from Arista like a dayum hot potato. :smh:

I've seen all of them and the Phyllis Hyman and Donny Hathaway one's were really sad to me, because they were 2 deaths that could have been avoided only if they would have gotten the treatment they needed. It also shows how we as black people need to be more open and not shame to talk about and admit to mental illness.

yep Chico's first album was fire, I think all the DeBarge's were bless with singing talent.

did you hear that lil girl voice?

I've performed most all of Chico's and El's stuff.

LOL @ Soror. That's Clive's M.O. He is doing the same thing with Alicia Keys.

He is a crossover star maker. Phyllis was my girl back in the day. I love her music and have it in my rotation. She was just so troubled. I remember she did an interview back in the 80s and she told Donnie Simpson, the only folks say her for awhile was the pizza delivery man. I mean she would be locked up in her place and not come out. I was like damn!! She was a beautiful sister too. I just hate she was so troubled. Seemed like we had a lot of artists like that back then.

Well I guess we still do..........but they got much medication for stuff now.

True. I have the one for Phyllis auto tuned sometime this week. (Thank God for DirecTV)

The speculation behind Bro. Hathaways' death was sad to me. :(

True! Its a shame that people twisted the stories about how things happened with his death.

I couldn't tell them apart back then either.

I caught the special on DeBarge last night. It was very depressing.

Yeah it seems like they would have had better handlers with them kids. All of them got strung out and the demons took over.

:(

How do you auto tune on Direct TV?

I know how it is done on Dish Network but I couldn't find a auto tune guide for Direct TV. I know how to use the record feature, but no auto tune. Dish Network has a auto tune without using the record feature.

Just when I thought I knew my music, I learn something new. I did not know that "A Dream" by Mary J. Blige actually came from DeBarge. :smh: Dayum, I'm slippin.

I never knew how much I loved DeBarge's songs back in the day until I watched this episode. I wonder do they have a greatest hits CD?

Another insightful show........hats off to TV One.
