Billy Joe is too old. And he's not exactly killing it at Miles. The SWAC should have enough with the retreads.

Where did Jones "lie" on his resume?

Alcornites still pissed with Spears for trying to make them forfeit that football game that got postponed by Katrina. Spears wanted them to come to Gram to play and lobbied the SWAC to make Alcorn forfeit when Alcorn wouldn't agree to it. They couldn't believe dude would do his own alma mater like that.
 
JSU/99, If I recalled, Billy Joe knows how to Comegy and Richardson.. He knack for turning losing programs into national powerhouses.. Let's not forget that he inherited a mess at Miles College from Wade Streeter and company... This was his first season at Miles as well..

Personally, I don't see Coach Joe leaving Alabama for situation in Lorman, Mississippi.. Alcorn State should consider going after Kent Schoolfield or Melvin Spears...

TV stations reported two days ago that all of the assistant football coaches at Alcorn were fired. So, I hit the phone lines yesterday...
(These are the conversations I had in the order of having them.)

— Talked to SID LaToya Shields. She said she could neither confirm or deny the rumors.

(My hunch: The "neither confirm or deny" line is always trouble...)

— Talked to HC Ernest Jones. He said he hadn't heard anything from AD Darren Hamilton or anyone else at the university. But he did say that he and all his assistants saw the news report and were surprised. I asked him if he had met with Hamilton or had any plans to, and he said there was a message left on his phone from Hamilton earlier this week that said Happy Holidays and that they would chat on Friday. Jones said that conversation never happened and, as of yesterday, they haven't spoken since the last game.
But Jones said he is still the head coach and the only thing he knows about his assistants are what the news reported.
Jones also referred any other comments to his lawyers Wayne Farrell and Ricky Left. There wasn't anything else he could say.

(My hunch: Jones didn't seem happy about the situation, obviously. There just wasn't a good tone in his voice.)

— Talked to Jones' lawyer Ricky Left. Left was very concerned about the way all of this is being handled. Said they haven't heard from any administrators and Jones hasn't sat down to talk about the season. So, pulling his staff would be undermining the coach and a very unprofessional business practice. As of Saturday night, he was still looking into the situation.

(My hunch: It's never good when lawyers are getting involved.)

— Talked to AD Darren Hamilton. He was returning from spending Thanksgiving with family out of state. He said the assistants have NOT been fired. Hamilton said that he would evaluate the football program Monday and make his recommendations to President George Ross afterward.

(My hunch: I didn't get the feeling that Hamilton is going to give the coaching staff a big vote of confidence on Monday. Remember, Jones was hired before Hamilton. So, he's not necessarily Hamilton's "guy.")

As of now: There's nothing conclusive as of Sunday except for the news reports. But there seems to be a hint of smoke in the air. And where there's smoke...

I'll be making the same round of calls Monday, so we'll see if there are any new developments then.

Joe is old, I agree but he was kicking azz until the administration tore down his program at FAMU by trying to go 1-A. I can't imagine Miles staying down as long as he is HC. However, it ain't like we are sitting here waiting on Joe to prove himself.

Not sure about Schoolfield but why would Alcornites want Spears? He only won at Grambling the ONE year that he had Bruce. His other two years were losing seasons. :confused: If you can't win at Grambling, I doubt that you can win at Alcorn. McKenzie would be a better option. If we are gonna do a rethread, I would also look to James Reese.

Oh and 99, I don't think the SWAC has too many rethreads, but I do believe that we have too many D2 coaches. We don't need any other coaches from the D2 ranks. (...and Joe is a 1-AA coach. :D )

Yeah Joe is also about 70 yrs old. Alcorn should do a nationwide search and see who they can find. Jones was a good hire on paper - he's just turned out to be a little too crazy IMO.

Whoever suggested Schoolfield needs to be examined. Dude hasn't been a headcoach in 5 years.

:lol: Yeah, dude was off his rocker having his hiring party in Jackson talking about beating them Blue Bengals at the beginning of the year. LOL!!!!!

He's coaching some prep school in NC, and making big money doing it. Dude must be a hellava interview. I think he won like 2 games in 2 years at Taylor.

I'm not mad at him but his coaching skills are suspect! He must have had a helluva an interview.
