So the SWAC got 2 at-large bid in 1989, yeah right and fat meat aint greasy and Popeye won't fight.
Yes we did. Why is that so hard to believe? Nothing posted here even by folks who think we actually had a bid supports that we had a bid in 1989.

I am one of the oleschool Grambling supporters that know for a fact we, that's Grambling was given an autobid. Duer Sharpe told the truth on national TV last night, cuz yes it definitely was taken away. I for one don't care if it ever given back either.
The SWAC will never get another BID.
I'll gurantee it under the present circumstances.![]()
Major Flaw my Friend.LOL... One team doesn't get an "autobid". It is an entire conference thing.
Grambling got a bid... not an autobid.
that "Oh-So-Great" SWAC Championship, when there's a real NCAA FCS Championship trophy waiting to be given out. It's very sad and elementary.
Major Flaw my Friend.
Uh, Grambling was the whole conference and still is:flippy:
I remember we moved the BC up one year during my time at SU. It was either my JR or SR years. You can even see the attendence dip if you go back I believe. Maybe someone from that time period can remember what year it was. I know it wasn't 84 or 85.
I stopped reading right there. As soon as you used the word "elementary," that disqualified a lot of SWAC grads from attempting to understand where we're coming from because their level of thinking is "elementary."
Damn a SWAC football champeenship. :retard: We want the BIG one FIRST and FOREMOST... and then we'd settle for that other conference thing which is the means to an actual end.
I said on this other site that what we're about to build (stadium) is not for us to compete w/ "SWAC schools." We're building/getting bigger/better because we want to compete w/ the ut-austins, aTm B/CSs, UofHs, Rices, SMUs, SHSUs, SFAs, TxSts, ... HERE first and foremost for academic and athletic talent! The SWAC is a secondary notion to us and just a means to get to where we'd like to be. :emlaugh:
You know what, PV, if thats how yall feel the PLEASE GET THE F*** OUT. Bye. We kept yall sorry arses when yall were the laughing stock of organized football, yall were the sorriest things ever put on a helmet, when yall got damn near 100 points put on yall, Yall were so sorry yall couldn't even field a damn team. Yall embarrassed the SWAC for countless years. And we kept yall sorry arses. Now yall have 1 descent year and wanna talk all this crap.
FIRST LETS BE CLEAR, YALL HAVE NO CHANCE AT THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR. YALL WOULD NOT COME CLOSE TO GETTING AN AT LARGE BID, NOT CLOSE. YOUr RPI is like 27 and your dunkel is 57, YOU HAVE 1 QUALITY WIN, against Southern, and we ain't even ranked that high. Even if yall would have played Sam Houston State, they are 4-5 this year and rated below Southern.
Sit there waiting for the NCAA to call. Just wait on that call, dummies.
I simply find it funny how this is suddenly a hot topic again. JSU'ers said years ago, this same stuff PV'ers are saying not. Nobody cared then, even PV'ers. Now that PV thinks it can, it's now an issue???
Very Funny!!!!I simply find it funny how this is suddenly a hot topic again. JSU'ers said years ago, this same stuff PV'ers are saying not. Nobody cared then, even PV'ers. Now that PV thinks it can, it's now an issue???
Very Funny!!!!
All this :argue2: and :whine: over a playoffs not 1 us would have made this year.:retard:

To touch on your whole post, I was speaking for the conference as a whole, not just PV. This same issue can come back next year, and what happens if you have a 10-2 Southern team, a 10-2 PV, a 10-2 Grambling, and two highly ranked teams from the East. What happens if you have an East team that hypothetically knocks off a few of the FCS's top-ranked teams and a ranked highly in the FCS polls? What happens if we have FIVE teams in our conference who are eligible to participate in the FCS playoffs? Do we continue to punish the other three teams by declaring them "in contention for the conference championship," which would again, eliminate them from participating in the playoffs.
We're so caught up in ourselves as a conference it's damn near pitiful....
Point is not being missed.....When the decision was made, the swac had a winning southern, a winning j-state, an up-n-coming grambling, a newcomer who had won on a lower level in aamu. I agree that j-state fans/supporters/etc would looked at in a :shame: way when they were :kaioken: over the decision. But some/few believe we should change 'cause 1 team has a good record?:noidea: Even if they qualified, PV didn't have the rankings to make the playoffs....no swac team has since '05.I think you are missing the point. The point is what if PV was 9-1 or 10-1 with a great RPI and a great chance to be in the playoff field. The SWAC's decision would eliminate them from that chance. That is what most of us deem unfair. I have always said if you are going to let some schools look out for the OWN best interest why make rules that hurt others who are also looking out for their OWN best interest. However, when I and others from JSU have made this statement we received a big , now PV posters understand what we were talking about years ago.
Actually, "this live with it or get out" message could have been used for Southern, Grambling, and Alabama State when in 1986 they decided to put their own interest ahead of the conference interest, costing the SWAC its automatic bid. So let's drop that message now in reference to PV. PV has a valid argument.
We didn't change a thing. Our decision was made back when the 1st BC was played in the early 70s.
Once again, the date of the Bayou Classic changed several times. Southern and Grambling pushed the classic date back making both teams ineligible for the playoffs. The move along with the date of the Turkey Day Classic cost the SWAC its automatic bid.
