Southern women’s basketball rode a dominant performance on a career day from DeMiya Porter to take down Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 80–65, on Saturday.

Porter led all scorers with a season-high 19 points. The win keeps Southern (10–8, 6–1 SWAC) rolling in conference play, while UAPB falls to 6–12 overall and 3–5 in the SWAC.

Southern shot a crisp 52.3% from the field (34-of-65) and dished out 27 assists—its most in SWAC play this season. The balanced offense wasn’t limited to the starters either. All 11 Jaguars who checked in scored, and the bench outproduced Pine Bluff’s reserves 37–17.

Olivia Delancy added 16 points, including three triples, while Jocelyn Tate notched a double-double with 10 points, 10 boards, three assists, and two steals.

Southern late surge puts game away

Pine Bluff made a third-quarter surge behind Khaniah Gardner and Jailah Pelly to close within 43–32, but Southern quickly responded with a 7–0 run sparked by Delancy’s three-point play. The Jaguars led 60–44 entering the fourth and never looked back.

Indiya Bowen paced the Golden Lions with 15 points, while Pelly and Jayla Cornelius chipped in 14 each. UAPB shot an impressive 7-of-15 from deep but struggled at the free-throw line (14-of-25).

The Jaguars built an early 23–11 lead after one quarter and used a 24–5 run to seize control by 17 points before halftime. UAPB briefly cut it to five late in the second, but Southern closed with an 8–2 flurry to lead 38–27 at the break.

Southern’s advantage swelled to as many as 22 points in the second half, and Pine Bluff never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.
