Alabama A&M University Director of Athletics Dr. Paul A. Bryant announced on Monday a change in leadership for the AAMU football program. Head coach Connell Maynor will be relieved of his duties effective immediately.
“We want to thank Connell Maynor for his seven seasons at Alabama A&M University,” Bryant said. “We wish him well in all his future endeavors.”
A national search for the program’s next head coach will also begin immediately, the school said.
Maynor’s record was 40-32, including 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference this season.
He finished his tenure with the Bulldogs 28–21 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, with his final game being a 28-20 road loss to Florida A&M on Nov. 29.
Maynor, a North Carolina A&T alum, led the program to a SWAC championship during the shortened 2020-21 FCS spring season and helped the Bulldogs finish 5-0 during that time.
He also served as head coach at Hampton University (2014–2017) and Winston-Salem State (2010–2013).
The Bulldogs won the SWAC championship in May 2021 under Maynor.
