For the second consecutive year, the season for Andrew Body has been cut short.
The Alabama State transfer quarterback, who revived hopes that the Hornets could make a SWAC championship run, will reportedly miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to a shoulder injury that requires surgery, according to HBCU Legends’ Kyle T. Mosley.
The news comes days after Body made his Alabama State debut in the Orange Blossom Classic on Sunday, shortly before exiting in the fourth quarter of the team’s 31-24 loss to North Carolina Central.
HBCU Legends reported on Wednesday that representatives of Body said the former Texas Southern quarterback would need arthroscopic surgery to repair an injury apparently sustained on the Hornets’ final drive of the game.
Prior to the injury, Body accounted for two touchdowns and game-high 134 yards rushing.
With Body now out, Eastern Illinois transfer Jonah O’Brien, who threw for 61 yards and two interceptions against the Eagles, figures to be the starter moving forward. The other listed quarterbacks on the Alabama State roster are junior Jayvious Langford, a Northeast Mississippi Community College transfer, and freshmen James Hayes and Zach Sims.
Last season with Texas Southern, Body appeared in the 2023 opener against Prairie View before later announcing that he would take a medical redshirt. He then hit the transfer portal and committed to Alabama State.
