Dr Cavils Major Top 10 Poll

HOUSTON, TX – As the season winds down, teams continue to put up a fight as they try to end the season on top. The Tennessee State Tigers continue to dominate the countdown as they remain No. 1.   Listen to Dr. Cavil’s “HBCU Sports Top 10 Countdown” show on KCOH 1430AM radio (www.kcohradio.com) announcing Dr. Cavil’s Top10 Major Division weekly poll rankings at 6:00 p.m. and Dr. Cavil’s “Inside the HBCU Sports Lab” with Ryan McGinty and Mike Washington from 9-10:00 p.m. every Sunday also on KCOH.

Although faced with their second loss of the season, the Tennessee State Tigers, (8-2), still remain No. 1 on the countdown. The Tigers lost to Murray State 49-28, but will have time to regroup due to an open weekend this Saturday.

The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, (7-2). continue to stand strong in the No. 2 position after they went on the road and defeated the Morgan State Bears, 24-13. The Wildcats will head back on the road to face the Savannah State Tigers next.

At No. 3 is the Arkansas Pine-Bluff Golden Lions, (7-2), who dominated the Tigers during Texas Southern University’s homecoming, 49-3. The Golden Lions will play the Grambling State Tigers on the road this weekend.

The No. 4 Alabama State Hornets, (6-3), defeated the Prairie View Panthers, 35-21, after trailing 14-0.  The Hornets will continue their two week conference road trip, traveling to Louisiana to face the Southern Jaguars.

The Jaguars are coming off a road lost to the No. 5 Alabama A&M Bulldogs, (7-2), 24-23, in overtime after missing an extra point after a touchdown. The Bulldogs will travel to Mississippi to take on the No. 8 Jackson State Tigers for control over the SWAC Eastern Division. The Jackson State Tigers, (5-4), overwhelmed the Tigers of Grambling State, 53-17.  The win marked the first regular season victory over GSU since 2004

At No. 6 is the North Carolina Central Eagles, (6-3), who narrowly defeated the No. 9 Delaware State Hornets, 23-20 in a double overtime affair. The Eagles will travel to Tallahassee to take on the Florida A&M Rattlers, while the Hornets will hosts the Hampton Pirates this weekend.

The Howard Bison, (6-3), defeated the Hampton Pirates, 20-10. Howard will head outside of conference competition this week and travel to face a non-HBCU program in the Georgia Southern Eagles. Remaining at No. 10 is the North Carolina A&T State Aggies, (5-4).  The Aggies defeated the Florida A&M Rattlers, 16-3, as they prepare to take on the South Carolina State Bulldogs this weekend
