Jackson State’s first trip to the NCAA softball tournament in 14 years ended with the Tigers failing to score in a 5-0 loss to LSU on Friday to open the regionals.
LSU pitcher Raelin Chaffin earned the win, pitching her fourth complete game of the season and her third shutout. The hurler tossed seven strikeouts with three walks, allowing two hits on no runs.
Ali Newland set the tone with two hits and two runs scored. Karli Petty went 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.
Gabrielle Willis and Samiyyah Huckabee collected the only two hits for Jackson State, which now faces elimination.
Starting pitcher Victoria Salazar went six innings, giving up six hits, and allowed four earned runs.
Jackson State will play California on Saturday in the loser’s bracket.
