Tennessee State Holds FCS Poll Top Spot Despite Loss, Division II Poll Stays Steady

Hartly, DE – Tennessee State (7-1) held on to their top spot in the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) Division I FCS Poll, just ahead of Bethune-Cookman (5-2) which closed in on points and first-place votes (146-139/8-6). Winston-Salem State (8-0) securely leads the Division II Poll.

Despite their 31-28 overtime loss at Jacksonville State (AL), Tennessee State maintained the top spot in the HSRN Division I-FCS poll in week eight. Bethune-Cookman (5-2) stayed at number two, but closed the gap on the Tigers in Poll points (142-139) and first place votes (8-6). Teams in three through six stayed the same showing Alabama A&M (6-1), North Carolina Central (5-2), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (5-2) and Alabama State (4-3) respectively. Howard (5-2) moved from eighth to seventh with Delaware State (4-3) jumped from not-ranked to eighth with their wins this weekend. North Carolina A&T (3-4) slipped from seventh to ninth and Morgan State (3-4) held on to tenth. Florida A&M (3-5) fell out of the top ten in week eight.

In the Division II, spots one through six remained the same, headed by Winston-Salem State (8-0). Miles (7-1), Tuskegee (6-1), Ft. Valley State (6-2), Elizabeth City State (5-3) and St. Augustine’s (5-3) were all winners and held their respective positions. Langston (OK) (4-3 was idle and rose from ninth to seventh while Albany State (5-3) moved from not-ranked to eighth with their big win over Clark-Atlanta. Chowan (4-4) and Stillman (4-4) slipped to ninth and tenth from seventh and eighth respectively.

The Heritage Radio Sports Network (HSRN) will travel to the state of Alabama to broadcast two Alabama HBCU rivalries on week nine. First, on October 25th in a Division II battle, the Miles (7-1) versus Stillman (4-4) rivalry from Fairfield, Alabama at 7:00 pm. The teams are ranked second and tenth respectively in the HSRN Division II poll. Next, on Saturday, October 27th the Magic City Classic between Alabama A&M (6-1) and Alabama State (4-3) from Birmingham at 3:30 pm for “Bragging Rights”. These two teams are ranked third and sixth in the HSRN Division I-FCS poll. Both games can be heard on Sirius channel 128, HSRN.com and HBCU Connect.
