David Mims, Virginia Union University, OL, 6-8, 330, FR, Charlotte, NC

Mims recovered a Panthers’ fumble and toted it 2 yards to the end zone for a touchdown against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears.

Receiver of the Week:
Michael Hampton, Virginia Union University, WR, 5-10, 180, JR, Charlotte, NC

Hampton posted 5 receptions for 106 yards in the Panther’s victory this week.

Offensive Back of the Week:
Lamar Little, Virginia Union University, QB, 5-11, 204, JR, Candor, NC

Little threw for 247 yards, completing 16 of 27 passes in the season debut for VUU.


Defensive Lineman of the Week:
Marcus Kennedy, Saint Augustine’s College, DT, 6-3, 275, Georgetown, SC

Kennedy led the Falcons with 10 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 1 fumble recovery in a 22-9 loss to Mars Hill.

Defensive Back of the Week:
Shawn Dickerson, Elizabeth City State University, SS, 6-1, 195, SR, Richmond, VA

In the Vikings’ season opener against Catawba, Dickerson notched a career high (and game high) of 15 tackles (9 solo, 6 assisted). That total marks the first double digit tackling game of his career. The Pre-Season All-CIAA selection also had one pass defended and an interception on the night.

Rookie of the Week:
Tim Lovick, Saint Augustine’s College, WR, 6-2, 175, Garner, NC

Lovick caught 5 passes for 81 years in a 22-9 loss to Mars Hill. He grabbed a 47-yard pass on a trick play.

Specialty Player of the Week:
Wayne Motley, Virginia Union University, P, 6-2, 212, JR, Richmond, VA

Motley landed 5 of 7 punts inside the 20 yard line, including a long of 45 yards.

Coach of the Week:
Arrington Jones, III, Virginia Union University

Coach Jones led the Panthers to a convincing victory over South Atlantic Conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne. The Panthers clinched their season-opener 28-13 in Hickory, NC.
