The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) announced on Wednesday the hiring of Tony Hull as the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for its football program, according to Head Coach Alonzo Hampton.

Hull comes to UAPB after a season at Grambling State, where he significantly improved the team’s offense as co-offensive coordinator, passing game coordinator, and quarterbacks coach.

Last season, Hull’s offensive strategy led Grambling State to rank third in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in total offense, averaging 28.7 points per game. The team also topped the conference in yards per game (407.8) and rushing yards per game (184.8), showcasing Hull’s effective coaching. His efforts were instrumental in Javon Robinson receiving the SWAC Freshman of the Year award in 2023.

Before his role at Grambling State, Hull was part of the coaching staff at the University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM), where he worked under Head Coach Terry Bowden as the running backs coach. He initially joined ULM in 2021 as the outside receivers coach. Hull’s coaching career includes tenure at the University of Kansas as associate head coach and running backs coach from 2016 to 2019 and at the University of Hawai’i as co-offensive coordinator and inside receivers coach in 2020.

Hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, Hull has a commendable track record in developing football talent, including guiding Pooka Williams Jr. to back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons at Kansas, a rare achievement in the university’s football history. He also coached Khalil Herbert, later drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2021, to one of the top single-game rushing performances in Kansas and NCAA history.

Before his collegiate coaching career, Hull significantly contributed to high school football in Louisiana. As the head coach and offensive coordinator at Warren Easton High School in New Orleans, he revitalized the program, leading the team to playoffs in seven of his nine seasons, including a state championship game appearance in 2014 and a state semifinal appearance in 2015. Hull’s dedication to his players extended off the field, achieving a 100-percent graduation rate among his football players and implementing a character development program.

Hull began coaching at Sarah T. Reed High School in New Orleans, his alma mater, where he served as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator in 2005, followed by a stint at Mandeville High School in 2006. A former two-year starter on the offensive line at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Hull earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology in 2004. He also has experience in the engineering field, including three years at NASA.
