The Jackson State Tigers women’s basketball team kept its win streak intact after defeating the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 72-56.

Jackson State improved its overall record to 16-6 overall and a perfect 11-0 record in SWAC competition.

UAPB, on the other hand, had its five-game win streak snapped bringing their overall record to 13-11 and an 8-3 record in conference.

Here are three takeaways from Monday’s game.

Jackson State remains dominant against the SWAC

Jackson State’s 11-0 record in conference play does not even begin to tell the story of their dominance.

In those 11 conference games, the Tigers have won by an average of over 20 points per game, with nine of their 11 wins coming by double-digit margins.

They are holding each opponent to under 40 percent shooting from the field and have outrebounded their opponents by over eight rebounds a game.

Jackson State is playing with a vengeance following a year in which they were upset in the SWAC tournament in the semifinals.

UAPB misses Zaay Green

UAPB stars Zaay Green and Maori Davenport missed this contest due to a knee injury and concussion respectively.

While this was Davenport’s second straight missed game, this was Green’s first time sitting out all season, and her presence was sorely missed

The 16-point margin of defeat was the worst for the Golden Lions in conference play, and their 56 points were tied for the lowest total in the conference.

In addition, they shot 32 percent from the field, which is tied for their third-lowest shooting percentage in a game all season.

Tigers close in on clinching SWAC top seed

With seven games left in the regular season, Monday’s win brought Jackson State one step closer to clinching the top seed in the SWAC tournament.

In addition to now holding head-to-head victories over UAPB and Grambling State, the other top teams in the SWAC, JSU only has one remaining contest with that group.

Only two of Jackson State’s seven remaining games are against teams with a winning record in conference play.

Not to mention that four of those contests will be played on JSU’s home floor, where they are 7-0 this season.
