Alabama State University has appointed its associate director of athletics, who has led its NCAA rules education and compliance program, to be its next athletic director.
Monique Holland will assume the position of ASU’s athletic director effective Jan. 1 and will oversee all 18 of its intercollegiate sports, said William H. Harris, ASU president.
“Monique Holland is the right person at the right time to lead ASU’s athletic department forward into the 21st century,†Harris said.
“Holland’s addition as the director of our athletic program offers ASU a great deal of experience, both from the NCAA member institution level and at the NCAA office level, which will aid us in addressing the myriad of programs that fall under our athletic department,†said Harris.
Holland came to Alabama State University in June as its associate director of athletics and as the school’s lead NCAA rules and compliance service officer.
Before joining the ASU family, Holland spent the last two and a half years as Georgia State University’s associate athletic director, where she was instrumental in the development of its departmental strategic plan. Prior to working at Georgia State, she served as the assistant director of membership services for the NCAA, where she conducted compliance reviews and athletic certifications of Division I institutions.
Holland also worked at Clayton State University as its assistant athletic director and at Georgia Tech as an assistant director of compliance and as an assistant women’s basketball coach. She has a master’s degree in sports administration from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Science in therapeutic recreation from Alabama State University, where she was an academic All-American.
“I look forward to working with all our coaches at Alabama State in helping our student athletes excel both in the classroom and on the field of play,†Holland said.
Holland replaces interim athletic director Ron Dickerson Sr., who recently announced his retirement effective Jan 1.
