grambling logoAnother former Grambling State coach is coming back for a second stint.

Patricia Bibbs, who has more than 500 career wins, resigned from North Carolina A&T and will be next Lady Tigers basketball coach, according to multiple reports.

Bibbs spent seven years at North Carolina A&T, where she led the Aggies to a 130-88 record winning three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles, a MEAC Tournament crown, and three postseason appearances.

“The wonderful and kindhearted people at North Carolina A&T will always be a part of my extended family,” said Bibbs in statement. “There are not enough words to express my gratitude for all Aggie Nation has meant to me and my family.”

Bibbs said her decision to leave North Carolina A&T was motivated in part by wanting to be closer to her immediate family. Bibbs’ husband, Ezil is a defensive line coach for the Grambling football team.

“I’m looking forward to the fortunate opportunity I have to coach at my alma mater again. I will miss the A&T fans and my players so, so much, but I will cherish all the outstanding memories we shared.”

Prior to taking the job at A&T, Bibbs spent 13 years at Grambling winning 244 games and six Southwestern Athletic conference titles before bolting to Hampton in 1997 amid NCAA violations that eventually resulted in the Lady Tigers forfeiting a  SWAC title, and the all-sports trophy  awarded to Southern for the 1996 season.

In the weeks leading up to Bibbs resignation, there had been speculation the legendary coach had been in talks with Grambling about its vacant head coaching position after the a school decided to reassign then coach Donnita Rogers last month.

At the time Bibbs did not confirm or deny those rumors.

Bibbs just completed the last year of a four-year, $130,000 contract at A&T that was set to expire June 30.

“We had the privilege of being in the presence of a true college basketball coaching legend,” said A&T Director of Athletics Earl Hilton. “We are honored that many of coach Bibbs’ milestones were achieved at North Carolina A&T. Those moments will always be a part of our storied history. What cannot be overlooked in the midst of all these accomplishments is the fact that Patricia Cage-Bibbs is a great champion for women’s athletics. We wish her continued success at Grambling State.”
