SWAC Releases 2007 Preseason Soccer All-Conference Honors

The Southwestern Athletic Conference announces its preseason honors for women’s soccer with Alabama A&M’s Belinda Kanda taking top honors as the Preseason Player of the Year for a second consecutive season. The honors were selected by votes from the member schools’ coaches and sports information contacts.

Kanda, a 5-foot-6 senior forward from Accra, Ghana, led the conference in shots per game (4.62), goals per game (2.00). She led conference and nation in points per game (3.06). She finished the 2006 season with 20 goals on 74 shots, nine assists, 49 total points and three game-winners. She also led the nation is goals per game (1.25). Her efforts garnered her first-team all-conference honors in 2006.

In the predicted order of finish, Grambling State and Alabama A&M were chosen to win their divisions. Grambling State, the 2006 conference champion, received 13 first place votes. Alabama A&M, the 2006 runner-up, received nine first place votes.
