A noteworthy four HBCU football players were named to the Stats Perform FCS All-America Team, but there was one Black college star who didn’t make the cut.

That would be Alabama A&M all-world quarterback Aqeel Glass.

Glass benefited greatly from a spring season that found himself on the national stage quite often.

The 6-foot-5 junior from St. Louis, Missouri threw 16 touchdown passes and just four interceptions on his way to leading Alabama A&M to a SWAC championship.
He was also named conference player of the year and is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award.

Those accomplishments couldn’t secure one of the four spots dedicated for quarterbacks on either the first or second team in 2021.

Voters instead selected Eastern Washington quarterback Eric Barriere and Southeastern Louisiana signal-caller Cole Kelly for the first team.

Eric Schmid, quarterback of Sam Houston, and Liam Welch, a graduate student at Samford, were named to the second team.

In response to the announcement, Glass posted a laughing emoji on Twitter.

“I ain’t tripping just gave me a little motivation,” Glass wrote.

Glass has thrown for 7,376 passing yards and 68 touchdowns over three seasons at Alabama A&M.

Going into the fall season, Glass is considered one of the top NFL Draft eligible quarterbacks in the country.

NFL Draft Diamonds owner Damond Talbot recently described Glass as the “best HBCU quarterback in the entire draft.”

“Aqeel Glass is a more athletic Philip Rivers, with great decision making,” said Talbot. “The AAMU star can make every NFL throw, he has a deep ball and can throw a rocket of a pass across the middle. Glass is a big kid that is hard to bring down and he has some deep threats on his team. This year I expect Glass to have a solid year and end up at an All-Star Game. He may be the best HBCU quarterback in the entire draft.”
