Two-time Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning will team up with three-time NBA Champion Stephen Curry to take on NBA legend Charles Barkley and pro golfer Phil Mickelson in The Match III on Friday, Nov. 27. at 3 p.m. ET. The match is set to take place at Stone Canyon Golf Club in Oro Valley, Ariz.

The Match is just over one week away!@StephenCurry30 I try to not let logic, reason, or Chuck’s swing get in the way of my smack talk, so let me just say, you and Peyton are going to be taken down by the worst swing in golf and “that’s gonna leave a mark.” (Tommy Boy) pic.twitter.com/iTfUVCzvBp

Each player will represent an HBCU to raise money for the institution and bring awareness to diversity and equality in sports.

Manning is the only person representing three schools instead of one, as he will play for Grambling State, Southern University at New Orleans and Lane College.

“I’m proud to represent these schools,” Manning said during a virtual press conference Monday. “Obviously growing up in New Orleans, the entire state of Louisiana has been important to me and growing up in Tennessee and having a real connection there, that’s kind of how we found these HBCUs.”

Earlier this year, Manning was partnered with Tiger Woods in The Match II. The event was able to raise $20 million in COVID-19 relief funds. Manning says the upcoming event, set for the Friday after Thanksgiving, has already raised over six million dollars so far.

While Woods won’t be apart of The Match anymore, Manning says he’s very confident in his new partner, Curry, and he plans to stay out of his way and let him do his thing.

“I’ve never played golf with Steph Curry, but I’ve certainly seen him play basketball a lot,” Manning said. “One of the great competitors, one of the great clutch performers… I’m looking forward to hopefully as my partner—- that clutch performer carrying over to the golf course.”

Manning is no stranger to giving back to GramFam. Through his organization, The Peyback Foundation, he created a scholarship in the name of Doug Williams, the former Grambling football star and first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. He’s created scholarships at a plethora of HBCUs while naming the scholarships after an alum or teacher who’s been an essential part of their respective school. When it came down to naming the scholarship for Grambling, Manning says Williams was a no-brainer.

“For his commitment to Grambling, him being a great ambassador for Grambling throughout his time in the NFL and still today, so it was an honor to call Doug and let him know what we’re doing,” Manning said.
