Someone had to be the first to do it.
Five-star senior Makur Maker, who had been recruited by the likes of Kentucky and UCLA, announced Friday that he would be committing to Howard.
I was the 1st to announce my visit to Howard & other started to dream “what if”. I need to make the HBCU movement real so that others will follow. I hope I inspire guys like Mikey Williams to join me on this journey. I am committing to Howard U & coach Kenny Blakeney #MakerMob

“I was the 1st to announce my visit to Howard & other started to dream ‘what if,'” Maker wrote on Twitter. “I need to make the HBCU movement real so that others will follow. I hope I inspire guys like Mikey Williams to join me on this journey. I am committing to Howard U & coach Kenny Blakeney.”
Maker, a 6-11 forward, who ranks No. 6 in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and 4th overall in the Top247 class of 2020, is the highest-rated recruit to commit to an HBCU program since ESPN began its recruiting rankings database 13 years ago.
Maker was also a highly-touted NBA prospect as well. He was ranked No. 75 in ESPN’s NBA draft rankings, and it was believed that Maker would skip college and play overseas before turning professional.
Maker is the cousin of current Detroit Pistons forward Thon Maker.
