RADFORD, Va. — A Hercules Tires Big South Men’s Basketball Tournament semifinal game record 36 points and 10 assists from Jermaine Marrow helped propel Hampton to an 86-78 win over Radford in the Dedmon Center on Friday night.

With the win, Hampton now heads to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on second-seeded Winthrop in Sunday’s 1 p.m. Big South Championship game. The game will be on ESPN.

Marrow’s 36-point, 10-assist outing is the first time anyone has had a conference tournament game of 35 or more points and 10 or more assists in any conference tournament in the last 20 years. He also became the first player in Big South history to have a 30+ point, 10+ assist game in the tournament. Marrow also becomes the only active player in NCAA records to amass 2,600 career points, 600 career assists and 500 career rebounds. Jon Elmore of Marshall broke that group last season.

Radford held a lead more most of the first 15 minutes as a Chyree Walker dunk with 6:37 left put the Highlanders up 20-17. Hampton (15-18) scored 10 of the next 12 points to lead 27-22 on a Ben Stanley layup with 3:30 left. The advantage grew to eight points on a 3-ball by Marrow with 82 seconds remaining for a 35-27 lead.

In the second half, Radford trimmed the lead to 41-39 on a 3-pointer from Travis Fields, Jr. with 18:38 remaining. Hampton responded with a 14-2 run to take a 55-41 lead on a 3-ball from Davion Warren with 14:54 left.

Hampton’s lead grew to as much as 19 points on a Stanley triple with 5:59 left for a 76-57 advantage, but the hosts made one big run outscoring the Pirates 14-2 over the next 3:59 to trail 78-71 after a pair of Carlik Jones free throws with two minutes left.

Down the stretch, Hampton hit 6-of-9 free throws in the last 87 seconds to ice the win.

Hampton hit 31-of-56 from the field (55.4%), 12-of-24 from both the 3-point line and foul line (50%). Stanley had another monster game of 26 points and seven rebounds, while Davion Warren scored all 12 of his points in the second half to go with seven rebounds.
