A postgame brawl following the Texas Southern-Alabama State women’s game was the story Monday night.
Moments after Texas Southern beat Alabama State 81-54 to improve to 8-1 in SWAC play, players from both teams — during the handshake line — were involved in separate altercations that spilled into the sidelines.
Punches were thrown, players were violently shoved and pushed to the ground as coaches on both sides attempted to intervene, according to footage from online videos of the incident.

Very disappointing to see. Multiple suspensions likely. Could end the season for some players. #SWACWBB #TXSOvsASU

“The Southwestern Athletic Conference has a zero-tolerance policy regarding unsportsmanlike conduct,” SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland said in a statement Tuesday morning. “The Conference Office will review all relevant information and will take appropriate action once the review is completed.”
It is unclear how or why the brawl started. Officials from either school did not comment after the game.
