NORFOLK, Va. — Senior forward Jibri Blount of North Carolina Central University and senior guard Rod Melton, Jr. of Florida A&M University have been selected as this week’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Players of the Week, it was announced today.  Meanwhile, senior forward Ronald Jackson of North Carolina A&T State University has landed MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors and freshman guard Joe French of Bethune-Cookman University is the MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Blount (F, 6-7, R-Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) had a 23-point, 11-rebound effort in his team’s lone game of the week, a victory over Florida A&M. Against the Rattlers, he went 9-for-10 from the line and added two steals.

Melton, Jr. (G, 6-1, Sr., Dothan, Ala.) led the Rattlers to a 70-68 victory over Iowa State, scoring 20 points to go along with three rebounds and two steals. He later had 18 points and four rebounds against North Carolina Central and 24 points, three rebounds and three assists in an overtime loss to North Carolina A&T State.

Jackson (F, 6-8, Sr., Clay County, Fla.) averaged 16.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a 2-0 week that saw the Aggies tally wins over Mid-Atlantic Christian and Florida A&M. In the overtime victory over FAMU, Jackson scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to go along with a pair of blocked shots.

French (G, 6-5, Fr., Orlando, Fla.) played more like an upperclassman than a freshman, as he averaged 19.0 points and 2.5 rebounds as the Wildcats defeated Howard after falling to Norfolk State. In the win over the Bison, French shot 72.7 percent from the field, scoring 25 points and grabbing five rebounds.

Other Top Performers
