ORANGEBURG, SC—Director of Athletics, Stacy Danley, has announced the hiring of Dr. Monique Carroll as the Deputy AD for Internal Operations/Senior Women’s Administrator for the Department of Athletics at South Carolina State University.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Carroll to the SC State family,” said Danley. “She brings a tremendous amount of valuable experience to our team and has made an impact on the revenue-generating efforts at her previous institutions, most recently Prairie View A&M University.”

“As a former student-athlete herself, she is committed to creating the best possible experience for our student-athletes,” noted Danley. “I look forward to working with Dr. Carroll as we continue to strive for excellence.”

“I am humbled as well as excited to join the South Carolina State University family. We have tremendous Bulldog tradition to uphold and enhance while providing a first-class experience for our student-athletes,” said Carroll. “I look forward to partnering with AD Danley in executing his vision for athletics while working with our coaches, staff, campus, community, and alumni for success.”

Dr. Carroll came to South Carolina State after a nine-year stint at Prairie View A&M University and most recently serving as the Associate Athletic Director for External Operations. Her duties included overseeing all external functions of Panther Athletics, including fundraising, game operations, ticket operations, and sponsorships and advertising.

During the 2016-17 season, Carroll spearheaded growth in athletic department sponsorship and revenue to the University. Panther Athletics led all public HBCU Division I Athletics Departments in revenue with more than $17.8 million. Among additional accomplishments was implementing seating plans at the new Panther Stadium, the 15,000-seat home for PVAMU football which opened to a sellout crowd and exciting come from behind win over archrival Texas Southern on ESPNU.

In the 2015-16 season, Carroll introduced the Athletic Director’s Club, the booster club set record numbers for athletic fundraising and in its 3rd year has experienced 46% growth in fundraising.

She previously served as Director of Athletic Compliance, monitoring and ensuring compliance for the Panthers’ 18 Division I programs with Prairie View A&M, Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and the NCAA rules and regulations. Carroll also oversaw the compliance department’s Assistant Software and athletic certification of student-athletes in addition to rules education for faculty, staff, boosters, coaches, and student-athletes.

All PVAMU athletic teams were eligible for NCAA postseason play in 2016-17 after a comprehensive effort spearheaded by the university’s Office of Athletic Compliance and Academic Advising. The PVAMU baseball, bowling, men’s golf, men’s tennis and men’s track & field teams posted a perfect APR score of 1,000 in 2014-15. The baseball team was the lone SWAC institution to post a perfect APR single-year score while the bowling, men’s golf, men’s tennis and men’s track & field teams shared top honors with multiple programs.

The PVAMU football team posted its highest multi-year (four-year) APR score (946) since APR was implemented in 2004. The team’s 2014-15 single-year score of 975 led all Southwestern Athletic Conference football programs in that category.

In addition to a perfect 2014-15 APR score, the baseball team posted its second-highest multi-year APR rate in program history while women’s basketball, bowling and women’s cross country also posted the second-highest scores in program history. The men’s basketball team logged its third-highest score while the men’s golf team jumped 250 points from its 2013-14 APR. The women’s cross country team had the department’s highest multi-year score with bowling and men’s tennis tied for second.

The PVAMU Department of Athletics was also awarded 16 delayed graduation points for the 2014-15 academic cycle. Delayed graduation points are points earned for a student-athlete that lost a point at any time during their matriculation and graduated within 10 semesters.

Prior to her arrival at Prairie View A&M University, Carroll served as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Services/Compliance Assistant for the SWAC. In this role, she was responsible for overseeing the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and serving as a liaison for all campus SAAC committees. She was also responsible for assisting in daily compliance duties at the SWAC office, including overseeing the National Letter of Intent program.

Prior to accepting the position as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Services/ Compliance Assistant, Carroll served as the SWAC Championships/Compliance Intern. As an intern, Carroll was involved in the day-to-day planning of championships and on-site operations. She also assisted the Assistant Commissioner for Compliance in monitoring and educating the SWAC membership on all SWAC and NCAA rules and regulations.

Carroll got her start in intercollegiate athletics as a compliance volunteer at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (UAPB). Carroll was a three-sport athlete as she was a member of the UAPB volleyball, track and field, and bowling teams. Carroll also attended Langston University (LU) where she was a member of the track and field team. During her time at LU, she set four school records in the indoor high jump, outdoor high jump, outdoor triple jump, and women’s heptathlon.

Carroll’s recognitions and organizational memberships include NCAA Division I National SAAC Representative for the SWAC, NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics, NCAA Effective Facilitation workshop, Women Leaders in College Sports, NAAC, and BWSF, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

A native of New Boston, Texas, Carroll received her Bachelors of Science in Secondary Health and Physical Education from Arkansas Pine Bluff, a Master’s of Sports Science in Sports Management at the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Ala, and a Doctor of Education with an emphasis in sports management from Northcentral University.
