Jacksonville, Florida – Renewed Rivalries, New Opponents, and Increased Tiger Spirit! These are just a few of the terms used to describe the 2019 Edward Waters College Football Schedule.

The Tigers will play an 11-game schedule which will feature eight contests against NCAA Division II teams. Seven of the scheduled eight NCAA Division II contests feature games versus teams from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), one of the nation’s two HBCU D-II football conferences’ and the NCAA Division II leader in football attendance. In addition, the 2019 EWC football slate boasts contests two against Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) teams, and one NAIA program.

“As a part of our continuing trajectory toward becoming the State of Florida’s destination institution of Emerging Eminence we are excited to usher in this new era of HBCU branded Tiger football at EWC here on the First Coast “, said EWC President & CEO, Dr. A. Zachary Faison, Jr.

Edward Waters will play five home contests in 2019 against an impressive bevy of notable and tradition-rich HBCU’s including a home opener versus Morehouse College (September 7), Allen University (October 12th — EWC Homecoming & The Inaugural AME Classic), defending SIAC champion Miles College (October 19), a Thursday night Halloween affair against perennial SIAC powerhouse Tuskegee University (October 31), the renewal of a bitter and storied rivalry with Savannah State University (November 9). The Tigers face a challenging road schedule beginning with a battle with the Jaguars of Southern University of the SWAC (September 14), at Lane College (September 21), at CIAA member school Shaw University (September 28), at Central State University (October 5), at Kentucky State University (October 26) and finally culminate the season on the road versus SWAC member Prairie View A&M University (November 16).

“We are ecstatic to build upon the new excitement that this schedule will undoubtedly create among our College stakeholders and throughout greater Jacksonville, as we seek to engender new interest in our institution and further amplify the EWC brand for future growth,” President Faison said.

The Purple & Orange will play an exclusively HBCU schedule in 2019 which is sure to excite not only the players and coaches but the entire EWC and Jacksonville community many of whom have been clamoring for a heightened HBCU brand of football throughout years past.

“Our program is overjoyed to bring President Faison’s vision for Tiger Football into fruition in the form of our 2019 football schedule,” remarked Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Stanley B. Cromartie. “For years, our fans have been begging to have more of an HBCU experience at our football games complete with marching band battles and all of the things that make HBCU football a unique one-of-a-kind showcase.”
