PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Grambling State University senior guard Shakyla Hill continued to receive national recognition as she was named on Tuesday to the Dawn Staley Award Mid-Season Watch List.

In its sixth season, the award recognizes the nation’s best guard in Women’s Division I college basketball, exemplified by skills that Staley possessed: ball handling, scoring, ability to distribute and will to win. Staley is currently the head coach at the University of South Carolina and played was a three-time All-America choice at the University of Virginia during her playing career (1989-92).

Hill, who has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Week six times this season, became the first NCAA Division I player, men’s or women’s to registered two quadruple-doubles. She accomplished the first quadruple-double during her junior season against Alabama State and posted her second against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Feb. 2.

The Little Rock, Ark. native is averaging 19.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 4.7 per game this season. She ranks second nationally in free-throw attempts, steals and steals per game and is fourth in free-throws made. In addition, Hill currently is among the tops in career totals in Grambling State women’s basketball history. She sits in second in assists (576), third in points scored (1,905), third in steals (455) and fourth in rebounds (869).

Four finalists will be announced in mid-March, with the winner be announced the weekend of the Final Four.

Grambling State opens up a two-game homestand starting on Saturday, Feb. 16 against Texas Southern. Tip-off during High School Day at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center is set for 3 p.m.
