NASHVILLE – Tennessee State announced its 2019 football schedule on Wednesday. The slate features five home games and a trip to Murfreesboro to face Middle Tennessee for the first time since 1998.

The Tigers open the season on Aug. 31 against Mississippi Valley State in the John Merritt Classic at Nissan Stadium. The matchup against the Blue Raiders is set for Sept. 7, almost 21 years to the day the two squads battled to a 28-27 contest, in favor of MT on Sept. 5, 1998.

The Big Blue will resume its annual meeting with Jackson State at the Southern Heritage Classic on Sept. 14 in Memphis, Tenn., after the 2018 game was cancelled due to inclement weather.

TSU will close out non-conference play by squaring off with SWAC opponent Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Tigers and the Golden Lions will play on Sept. 21 at a location to be determined.

Ohio Valley Conference begins with a pair of road games. The first is on Sept. 28 in Richmond, Ky. against Eastern Kentucky, followed by a trip to Jacksonville State on Oct. 5.

The Tigers return home for four consecutive games. The first, versus Murray State on Oct. 12 will be played at Hale Stadium. Homecoming is set for Oct. 19 against Austin Peay at Nissan Stadium. After a bye week, TSU will play back-to-back games in “the Hole” versus Southeast Missouri State on Nov. 2 and against Eastern Illinois on Nov. 9.

Tennessee State closes out the regular season with a pair of road tests at UT Martin on Nov. 16 and Tennessee Tech on Nov. 23.

Dates are subject to change and times will be announced at a later date.
