SWAC Announces 2010 All-SWAC Football Team

SWAC LogoThe Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its 2010 all-SWAC football teams today, along with its players of the year and coach of the year award winners.

Offensive Player of the Year
FRANK WARREN • RB • Grambling State (6-0, 180, Sr., Pleasantville, Ala.)

Warren led the SWAC and was 3rd in the NCAA in rushing with 1,592 yards. He also averaged 10.4 points per game, which was 5th in the FCS. He is currently 6th among active career rushers in the NCAA and second all-time in the SWAC finishing with 3,910 yards.

Defensive Player of the Year
DEJUAN FULGHUM • LB • Texas Southern (6-1, 220, Jr., Killeen, Texas)

Fulghum finished 3rd in the SWAC in total tackles with 91, and led the league with 9.0 sacks. He finished with 15.0 tackles-for-loss and one interception. Fulghum led the Tiger defense to a #2 ranking in the FCS in total defense.

Newcomer of the Year
CASEY THERRIAULT • QB • Jackson State (6-3, 205, Jr., Wyoming Park, Mich.)

Therriault finished 2nd in the NCAA with 3,436 yards passing and 3rd in the nation at 312.0 yards per game. He threw for 31 TDs and rushed for another 10 scores. His 3,600 yards of total offense was tops in the SWAC and 2nd in the nation. Twice he threw for 5 touchdowns and had 7 300-yard passing games on the season.

Freshman of the Year
JER-RYAN HARRIS • LB • Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-1, 215, Fr., Memphis, Tenn.)

Harris led the SWAC and was tied for 8th in the nation with 129 total tackles (11.73 per game). He finished with 8.0 sacks, which was 3rd best in the SWAC. He recorded 21 total tackles against Texas Southern and was twice named SWAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Coach of the Year
JOHNNIE COLE • Texas Southern

Cole has led his alma mater to its first-ever SWAC Championship Game berth and the first 8-win season at Texas Southern since 2000. The Tigers can tie the school record with a 9th win Saturday. Cole is finishing his 3rd season at TSU with a record of 18-16 with the Tigers. He is 33-32 in his 6th season as head coach for his career.
Cole narrowly edged Alabama State’s Reggie Barlow to win the award for the first time in his career.
