BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Grambling State guard Shakyla Hill has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season and the second week in a row. The league made the announcement Tuesday morning.

Hill, a 5-7 senior from Little Rock, Ark., averaged 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.3 steals per game during the Puerto Rico Classic. Grambling went 2-1 over the week, including a 65-62 win over previously unbeaten Indiana.

The SWAC’s leading scorer began the tournament with nearly her second quadruple-double of her career. She scored 19 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished eight assists and made eight steals despite the Lady Tigers’ loss. Grambling rebounded with the win over the Hoosiers, and Hill was instrumental in the victory, scoring 19 points with five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.

Hill concluded the week with a 25-point, five rebounds, five-assist and three-steal line in a 62-61 win over Loyola Marymount. Overall, she shot 49 percent from the floor.

Other Notable Performances:

– Alabama A&M guard Carnethia Brown averaged 15.5 points and 3.5 assists while shooting 38 percent from three-point range in the Lady Bulldogs’ victories over North Florida and Jacksonville. Against UNF, Brown set a then career-high in points with 15 in the 63-62 win. The next day, Brown set new personal-best marks in scoring and playmaking with 16 points and four assists, respectively.

– Alcorn State guard Diamond Hall posted a 12-point, 12-rebound effort Friday against New Mexico State off the bench, matching her career-high in boards and coming just one point shy of tying her career-best in scoring.

– Jackson State forward Marneisha Hamer put up 27 points and nine rebounds during the Lady Tigers’ 72-57 win over Illinois-Chicago.

– Southern guard Skylar O’Bear was a bright spot in the Jaguars’ setback versus Texas Tech on Dec. 18 with 19 points. O’Bear wasn’t the only SWAC player with a strong effort versus the Red Raiders, as Texas Southern guard Marquia Turner scored 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc on Dec. 22
