MEAC Football Players of the Week – Week 6

North Carolina Central quarterback Chauncey Caldwell was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Florida A&M’s Antonio Miller was named Defensive Player of the Week while North Carolina Central’s Nick Leverett received Offensive Lineman of the Week honors. Howard running back Khalid Dorsey was tabbed Rookie of the Week while North Carolina Central placekicker Adam Lippy was named Specialist of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chauncey Caldwell
North Carolina Central

Caldwell amassed a career-high 464 yards of total offense, including a career-best 153 rushing yards and the game-winning touchdown run with 24 seconds left in the game, to lead the Eagles to a 40-35 conference victory over Howard University. On NCCU’s final drive, Caldwell engineered a nine-play
drive, passing for 34 yards and rushing for 42 yards, including the go-ahead score from three yards out.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Miller helped lead the Rattler defense to its’ first shutout in 18 years Saturday in a 17-0 victory over Norfolk State. The Lakeland, Fla. native finished with a team-high 10 total tackles (5 solos), an interception return for 39 yards; one (1) tackle for loss; one pass break up and one quarterback hurry.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Khalid Dorsey
Howard

York, Pa.

Dorsey had a career day on the ground at North Carolina Central with 83 yards on 15 carries. He also had a 19-yard touchdown run which gave Howard the lead with 6:19 remaining.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
Nick Leverett
North Carolina Central

Concord, N.C.

Leverett helped pave the way for a season-high 528 yards of total offense and 40 points in handing Howard its first conference loss this past weekend in Durham, N.C. The redshirt junior graded out at 92 percent with five pancake blocks, no sacks allowed and zero penalties.

Lippy accounted for 10 points in NCCU’s five-point win over Howard. He made two 42-yard field goals (one at the end of the first half and the other to increase the Eagle’s lead to 5 points midway through the fourth quarter) and converted all four PATs.

NOTABLE PERFORMERS

Marcellos Allison (LB/Howard)
Finished with nine tackles and a half-sack at North Carolina Central on Saturday.

Bishop Bonnett (RB/Florida A&M)
Rushed for 80 yards on 12 attempts in the win over Norfolk State. His 43-yard run early in the fourth quarter set up a 13-yard scoring pass from Ryan Stanley to Chad Hunter, which pushed the FAMU lead to 10-0, then he iced the game for the Rattlers with a 14-yard touchdown run with just under three minutes to play.

Alex Brown (DB/South Carolina State)
Finished with eight tackles and two pass breakups in the win at Morgan State.

Jequez Ezzard (WR/Howard)
Caught eight receptions for 174 yards with three touchdowns at North Carolina Central. This was his third 100-plus yard performance this season.

Chris Faddoul (P/Florida A&M)
Averaged 48 yards per punt with a long boot of 55 yards versus Norfolk State.

James Holmon (OL/Howard)
Graded out at 90 percent after helping the Bison rack up 598 total yards, including 381 yards in the air and 217 yards on the ground at North Carolina Central.

Faraji Joseph (PK/Howard)
Finished Saturday’s contest at North Carolina Central with two-of-three field goals, including a career-best 35-yarder.

Josh Miles (OL/Morgan State)
Miles led a Bears offensive line which was able to produce a game-high 339 total yards versus South Carolina State. Morgan State produced 198 yards on the ground, including a rushing touchdown. He completed the game with three pancakes and had zero penalties.

Duane Nichols (DB/South Carolina State)
Posted a team-high eight (8) solo tackles and two tackles for loss in the Bulldogs’ 21-18 victory over Morgan State.

Marcus Pettiford (OL/North Carolina A&T State)
Helped the Aggies account for 356 yards of offense (182 yards rushing) at Delaware State. He graded out at 86 percent and 100 percent on pass protection.

Jerome Pettiway (P/South Carolina State)
Had seven punts for 270 yards with an average of 38.6 yards per punt at Morgan State. His longest was a 52-yarder with two punts inside the 20 and two punts over 50-plus yards.

Lamar Raynard (QB/North Carolina A&T State)
Accounted for all five of North Carolina A&T State’s touchdowns this past weekend in the win at Delaware State. He tied the school record for career touchdown passes (59) while breaking the school record for touchdowns accounted for (70).
