Tennessee State has acquired a national champion who is most known for an in-game sideline outburst than his on-field exploits.
Alabama linebacker Mekhi Brown, who became infamous during the College Football Playoff national championship game for getting into an altercation with a Crimson Tide coach, is reportedly transferring to Tennessee State.
The Tennessean reported Monday that Brown, a sophomore from Columbus, Georgia, had actually been admitted to TSU more than a month before Alabama beat Georgia in last Monday’s national championship game.
According to the report, the university has place undisclosed behavioral stipulations on Brown that he must adhere to before joining the football team.
Brown apologized following the game, calling himself “a jerk” in regard to the incident.
“That’s not how I am. I wanted to win, that’s what it was. I did something stupid. I could have cost us the game,” he said after the game regarding the incident where he was seen punching a Georgia player before lunging at an Alabama coach after receiving a personal foul penalty.
Since Brown is transferring to an FCS school, he will be immediately eligible to play right away.
