MEAC Football Players of the Week – Oct. 11

North Carolina A&T State running back Tarik Cohen and Howard running back Anthony Philyaw were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Offensive Players of the Week, the conference announced today. Florida A&M defensive end Calvin Darville was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Delaware State’s Fatu Sua-Godinet earned Rookie of the Week honors, while North Carolina A&T State’s Darriel Mack received Offensive Lineman of the Week honors.Anthony Prevost, of Hampton, was selected as the Specialist of the Week.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Cohen had his second-straight 200-yard plus game in the 35-0 win over Norfolk State. He rushed for 200 yards on 23 carries, with one touchdown, making him the MEAC’s all-time leading rusher.

Anthony Philyaw
Howard

6-1, 205, Jr.
Redondo Beach, Calif.

Philyaw finished Saturday’s non-conference match-up versus Monmouth with a career-high 234 yards, on 26 carries, and three touchdowns. He opened the game with a 39-yard rushing touchdown and average nine yards per carry in the game.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Belle Glade, Fla.

Darville recorded seven tackles (six solo), including two tackles for a loss totaling 11 yards and one forced fumble, in a defensive slugfest versus North Carolina Central. He scored the first points of the contest with a safety early in the first quarter.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Honolulu, Hawaii

Sua-Godinet had a career-high five receptions for 84 yards versus Hampton this past Saturday. He notched his first collegiate touchdown, a 23-yard reception, at the end of the second quarter to tie the game and cap off a 99-yard drive.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK

Clio, S.C.

Mack earned a grade of 92-percent on his blocking assignments, with four pancake blocks and no sacks allowed, as North Carolina A&T State finished with 359 yards of total offense. The Aggies rushed for 248 yards and completed 14 passes, including two touchdowns, in the victory over Norfolk State.

SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK

Chesterfield, Va.

Prevost scored nine points for the Pirates as he finished 2-for-3 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points in the 27-17 win at Delaware State. His 35-yard field goal before halftime gave Hampton a 17-14 lead.

Other Top Performers

Colby Blanton (P/FAMU) averaged 46.7 yards on 11 punts, including a 77-yarder, against North Carolina Central.

Toree Boyd (OT/HOW) earned a 95 percent blocking grade, with three pancake blocks, against Monmouth.

Reggie Hunter (LB/NCCU) tallied eight tackles, including a game-high 3.5 tackles for loss totaling eight yards, in a win over Florida A&M.

Cody Jones (PK/NCAT) went 5-for-5 in extra points in the victory over Norfolk State.
