Fred Farrier (Morgan State) – Felt good about game plan in preparing for Marshall. Said his team can’t continue to shoot itself in the foot with costly turnovers. Will need to work on ball security. Said it was not the original plan to play both QBs, but felt the experience to play 2 QB against a quality opponent would be beneficial for both players for the rest of the season. Stated the open week will be helpful for his team in healing minor injuries before beginning the conference schedule against Howard. Stressed that his team will be a better football team when they face Howard.

Alex Wood (Florida A&M) – Despite a 0-2 start, Wood said the team is making progress. Said his team didn’t make many adjustments during the second half in the game against CCU, the team just did a better job of executing game plan. Spoke about upcoming game against Tuskegee. Thinks Tuskegee is similar to a number of teams in the MEAC related to physical style of play. Stated that Tuskegee is a “polished” opponent. Said his team should not look down on Tuskegee because the team is a Division II opponent.

Kenny Carter (Delaware State) – Stated that mistakes are likely to continue to happen due to playing 17 freshmen. Said the team is missing too many tackles and that there are certain things that can’t be taught in practice that can only be learned by playing in games. Is not focused entirely on preparing for Missouri during the bye week as much as he is focused on making sure the team is fundamentally sound in its play.

Gary Harrell (Howard) – Said the first two weeks of the season have been challenging in playing two Big 10 opponents. Said the team was very “excited and animated” in taking a 14 point lead against Rutgers, but the team needs to learn how to finish playing in games like these. Thinks special teams will be a key factor in upcoming game against Hampton in the Nations Classic. Thinks his team can’t afford a lot of missed tackles against an “explosive” Hampton team. Said schools on the FCS level are doing a better job of recruiting, and as a result, are being more competitive against FBS teams. Said the difference is still in the “trenches”, but that FCS are just as talented at the skilled positions. Expressed that his players and coaches look forward to playing up against FBS teams despite the scrutiny that may come with playing such games for the money.

Terry Sims (Bethune-Cookman) – Spoke about Frank Brown’s punt return during game against North Texas and how he has put emphasis in special teams play. Spoke about the challenges his team will face in playing upcoming game against Tennessee State. Spoke briefly about the close game BCU had against Tenn. State back in 2013.

Latrell Scott (Norfolk State) – Thought team played as well as they could play in the first quarter of game against Richmond. Address how well his defense has played so far this year, but expected to see the squad make a few extra plays against Richmond. Is looking forward to game against William & Mary. Said the game will be a challenge.

Connell Maynor (Hampton) – Spoke about his team’s balanced attack on offense. Appreciated the fact that his team was able to move the ball on the ground last Saturday compared to last year’s match against William & Mary. Spoke about the potential of the MEAC conference and how competitive it has become in playing against other conferences. Believes his team can play against anybody. Said he tells his team not to just be comfortable in competing against other conferences, but to believe they can actually win games. Is looking forward to upcoming game against Howard at RFK stadium. Called it a “win-win situation” for both schools and the players.

Erik Raeburn (Savannah State) – Said the team is going to focus on trying to eliminate mistakes during the open week. Spoke about the team buying into the vision of the program going forward as it related to rebuilding the SSU program. Despite the 0-2 start so far, the team has made improvements.

Buddy Pough (South Carolina State) – Talked about the difficulties associated with having his team wait for 4 hours due to weather delays before playing game against Louisiana Tech. Said he had no plan in helping team deal with a weather delay for that long. Said he was proud of the effort his team made when play finally got underway. He said the key to success in playing upcoming game against Clemson is for his team to stay focused on getting better. Says the program has been fortunate in getting the type of talent that eventually leads them to playing in the NFL.

Rod Broadway (North Carolina A&T) – Said Tulsa is an outstanding team and is a much better team than what they have played so far this year. Spoke about how A&T was the “laughing stock of black college football” at one point. Said his players have bought into the program and are moving as a unit in the right direction. Spoke about the play of LB Jeremy Taylor against Kent State and how he earned a scholarship after coming on the team as a walk-on. Spoke about the five guys who earned team balls after Saturday’s game.

Jerry Mack (North Carolina Central) – Is looking forward to playing first home game of the year against Saint Augustine’s. Said despite playing two previous FBS opponents, the game plan will not change much for this week’s game. Spoke about North Carolina A&T’s win and how it sent a message that HBCUs are capable of winning games against FBS opponents on any given Saturday. Said the last two weeks have been the most difficult he has faced in the entire time he has been head coach at NCCU.
