UAPB Falls to Oklahoma Panhandle State 20-16

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Brandon Trotter caught a 55-yard TD from Shane Truelove with 2:49 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift the Oklahoma Panhandle State University to a 20-16 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Saturday evening at Golden Lion Stadium.

UAPB scored 13 third quarter points in the quarter to take a 16-7 lead over the OPSU with the Golden Lions scoring two rushing TDs in the stanza. Dante McDonald punched it in for the Golden Lions from 13 yards out to with 13:50 remaining in the third. Then Terry Montgomery would score from two yards out at the 7:15 mark, capping a 10-play, 73-yard drive by the Golden Lions.

OPSU would counter with their own 13-point quarter as they scored 13 points in the fourth. True love would toss his second and third TD of the game in the quarter. Jamie Gillan gave the Golden Lions, a 3-0 lead with 1:25 remaining in the first half as he nailed a 22-yard field goal with 1:25 left in the first quarter, capping a nine-play, 36-yard by UAPB.

OPSU scored their first TD of the game on a two-yard TD pass to Steven White, Jr., with 3:30 left in the second quarter as the Aggies went into the break with a 7-3 lead over UAPB.

McDonald led the UAPB rushers with 122 yards on 20 carries and scoring one TD, followed by Montgomery with 33 yards on six carries and scoring one TD.

Duncan in his second start of the season finished the contest with 203 passing yards by completing 27 passes in 38 attempts.

Cody Swain led the UAPB receivers with 72 yards on 10 receptions, followed by Willie Young with 51 yards on six receptions and John Hawkins with 43 yards on six receptions.

Willie Duncan led the UAPB defense with 11 total tackles, followed by Shufon Alcorn with 10 total takedowns and two breakups.

Cedric Agyeman led the Aggies in rushing with 73 yards on 14 carries with his longest rush being for 12 yards.

Truelove the OPSU field general finished the contest with a 228 passing yards by completing 22 passes in 34 attempts and three TDs.

Andrew Hernandez and Trotter led the Aggies receivers with Hernandez leading the team in receptions with seven for 80 yards, while Trotter led the team in receiving yards with 93 on a six catches.

Both Shecari Johnson and Byron Edward led the Aggies on defense as they both finished with 10 tackles each.

UAPB will have a short week next week as the Golden Lions will travel to Alcorn State, Miss., to take Alcorn State on Thursday, Sept. 15 at Spinks/ Casem Stadium in a 6:30 p.m. start broadcasted live on ESPNU.
