grambling logo.thumbnailGrambling, LA—The Grambling State Lady Tiger’s basketball program announced today two early commitments for the 2010-2011 basketball season.

Aricia Mitchell (6-1, F/C, Tyler, TX), a transfer from St. John’s University, played in 63 games over two seasons for the Red Storm recording 280 points and 198 rebounds. Mitchell prepped at John Tyler High School in Tyler, TX where she averaged nearly 15 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. She was a first team all-district and All-East Texas selection. During her sophomore season in which she was named East Texas Newcomer of the year her team was ranked as high as fourth in the nation

“Reecie (Mitchell) will be a strong inside presence for us in the paint during conference play next season. She has a strong defensive presence and is a serious offensive threat. She has great hands and good footwork, is a solid consistent rebounder and one of the best passers on the team”, said Lady Tigers Head Woman’s Coach Donnita Rogers.

Keniqua Wyche, a native of Stone Mountain, Georgia, is the only high school senior that the Lady Tigers have signed to add to their perimeter play for next season. Wyche, a recipient of a House Resolution for her accomplishments from the state legislatures of Georgia, proved to be an essential part of the Stephenson High School Lady Jaguars basketball team and their spectacular 2007-2008 GHSA State Class 5A Championship, their second title in four years.

Wyche was named a 2009 all tournament team selection for the Crescent Bank Holiday Invitational, Stephenson High School Player of the Month for January and February in 2010, voted 2009-2010 MVP and received the Del Kalb County All Region Team player of the year award for class 5A.

“Coach Powell, Lady Tigers assistant women’s basketball coach, was really excited by Nikki’s (Wyche) play when she saw her play during last summer’s July evaluation period. Powell knew that Nikki needed to be the next addition to the Lady Tigers guard play,” Rogers continued. “She can score in many ways. She can get to the basket, off of the dribble and finish in traffic and can also nail the three point shot. She will bring more versatility to our perimeter play next season.”
