NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman quarterback Quentin Williams was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today.  Norfolk State linebacker Deon King and Howard’s Craig Johnson were named Co-Defensive Players of the Week.

Howard’s Donnell Pleasant earned Rookie of the Week honors while Morgan State’s Cooper Clarkin received Offensive Lineman of the Week accolades. B-CU’s Jonathan Cagle was selected Special Teams Player of the Week.

Williams (QB, 5-11, 209, r-Sr., Tampa, Fla.) completed 9 of 18 passes for 207 yards with two touchdowns as the Wildcats defeated Savannah State, 42-12.  Also, Williams ran for 100 yards on nine attempts and became the first B-CU quarterback to accomplish the task of 200 passing and 100 rushing yards since 2004.

Johnson (SS, 5-11, 200, Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y) recorded seven tackles, four solo, with two forced fumbles, one of which he returned for a touchdown against Hampton.  Also, he recorded one tackle for a loss and one pass breakup in the game.

King (LB, 6-1, 235, Sr., Reston, Va.) finished the game with 10 tackles, six solo stops, and 0.5 for a loss of six yards in a 24-14 win over Hampton.  He also returned a first-quarter interception 26 yards to help the team set up the game’s first touchdown.

Pleasant (RB, 5-11, 205, Fr., San Diego, Calif.) received his first career start and responded with a career-high 90 yards on 12 carries against Morgan State.  He also led the team and game with a career-high nine receptions.

Clarkin (OL, 6-3, 260, Fr., Middleton, Conn.) led the Bears in the trenches as he graded out at 90-percent of his blocking assignments and registered four pancake blocks.  He did not surrender a single sack and helped the Bears garner 414 total offensive yards, including 208 on the ground, in a win over Howard.

Cagle (P, 6-3, 183, Jr., Pensacola, Fla.) averaged a season-best 50.7 yards per punt against Savannah State, punting three times for 152 yards.  He booted a season-high 64-yarder and landed three punts inside the 20.

Other Top Performers

Louis Humphrey (NSU) received a grade of 85-percent and recorded three pancake blocks in the Spartans win over Hampton.

John Fleck (HOW) connected on 2-of-3 field goals and averaged 39 yards on seven punts including five inside the 20-yardline.

Gerard Johnson (NSU) finished with a season-high 146 all-purpose yards, including 119 yards on the ground on 20 attempts, with one touchdown.

Joel Scott (MSU) recorded four tackles, three solo, with three for a loss and one sack.  He also forced a fumble to lead the Bears’ defense against Howard.

Moses Skillon (MSU) completed 16-of-29 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 64 yards on 10 carries in a win over Howard.

Jason Smith, Jr. (B-CU) collected seven tackles, three solo, with 2.0 for a loss of 11 yards, and one sack.
