NORFOLK, Va. – For the fifth time in the event’s history, the AAU Junior Olympics track and field meet will be held at Norfolk State University’s William “Dick” Price Stadium. This year’s track and field events will run from Aug. 1-8.
More than 10,000 track and field athletes are expected to compete at this year’s event, which has become the largest youth track and field meet in the world. The track and field portion of the AAU Junior Olympics event is in its 49th year of operation.
Hosted again this year by the Hampton Roads Sports Commission, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics are returning to the Hampton Roads region for the first time since 2010. The region is one of several areas nationwide which hosts the AAU Junior Olympics on a rotating basis. The track and field meet is the largest and longest athletic competition in the AAU Junior Olympics, which also includes more than a dozen other athletic disciplines. Olympians such as Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Bershawn Jackson and Sanya Richards Ross have competed at AAU track and field events.
