Southern athletic director William has been reassigned to another position within the university, sources told HBCU Sports Thursday.
A source close to Broussard said he has been reassigned to work in the “System President’s Office” at Southern.
Current men’s basketball coach Roman Banks is expected to be named interim athletic director. A board vote to approve Banks as interim AD will be held on Friday.
While Southern did experience successes winning multiple SWAC championships, including in revenue-generating sports men’s basketball and football, the lingering Academic Progress Rate issues that were a hold over from previous administrations, cast a cloud over the entire athletic program.
Southern athletics has been ruled ineligible for postseason play since December 2013 because of poor APR reporting School officials met with the NCAA met with the school to evaluate the overhaul Southern underwent in response to the sanctions.
Broussard had requested relief from the NCAA sanction that was issued in 2012.
Most recently, the school learned the football team would not be able to hold spring practice sessions because of the sanctions.
Broussard was named athletic director in 2012 after serving as athletics director at Centenary College in Shreveport.
As an undergraduate, Broussard was a varsity letter winner for NSU’s Division I football team from 1997-2000.

Southern Univeristy issued the following statement:
Southern University Director of Athletics Dr. William Broussard has been temporarily reassigned to the Southern University System Office, effective April 1.
The reassignment is a personnel matter and therefore the University can not discuss it publicly. The University will have no further comment on the subject.
We fully anticipate that Dr. Broussard will return as Director of Athletics on Aug. 1, 2015.
SU Head Mens’ Basketball Coach Roman Banks will assume a dual role that will include Acting Director of Athletics, effective April 1. He will continue in both positions until the anticipated return of Dr. Broussard on Aug. 1, 2015.
