Rattlers Get Pounded 24-2 By Marshall

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida A&M (1-1) gave up 19 runs in the first five innings, including a 12-run fifth inning, as Marshall (1-1) pounds the Rattlers 24-2 on Saturday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field. FAMU scored two runs in the ninth inning to avoid the shutout. Florida A&M starter Alex Carrasco (0-1) suffered the loss after giving up 7 runs on 10 hits in 2.2 innings of work with two strikeouts.

The Rattlers and Herd will close out the three-game series on Sunday morning at Moore-Kittles Field at 11:00 AM. FAMU RHP David Ogilvie will face Herd RHP Lance Elder.

Hawks Baseball Washed Over By Crimson Tide

HOOVER, Ala.  – Fresh off an opening night loss that ended up with many positives, the Hawks baseball team found successes in game two more difficult to find. In the end, the Crimson Tide led wire-to-wire in an 11-0 defeat of the Hawks on a sunny, spring-like afternoon in central Alabama. The loss drops UMES to 0-2 on the young season.

The Hawks will get a third attempt to earn a victory before coming back to the Shore, and they will have junior Tanner Whiteman  making his Hawks debut. Alabama will counter with sophomore Geoffrey Bramblett. Game time is scheduled by 2:05 p.m. Eastern time.

Bethune-Cookman Falls To Georgia Southern, 12-8

STATESBORO, Ga. – Nathan Bond registered three hits on Saturday, but it was not enough as Bethune-Cookman fell to Georgia Southern by a count of 12-8 in the second game of a three-game stretch inside J.I. Clements Stadium. With the win, the Eagles took the series after claiming a 3-0 decision over the Wildcats in Friday’s season-opener for both squads.

The Cats were led at the plate by Nathan Bond’s three-hit performance in four at-bats, as well as Jordan Robinson with a multi-hit day, as he collected a pair of singles and drove in a run. Demetrius Sims added two RBI and scored twice, and it was Jake Welch delivering a game-high tying three RBI and scoring once. Clay Middleton also struck for two hits and walked twice.

Bethune-Cookman will finish the three-game set against the Eagles on Sunday in the series finale set for 1 p.m.

Mauricio, Hiser Help NSU Split DH and Win Series over NCCU

DURHAM, N.C. – Alex Mauricio hit the go-ahead two-run single, and he and three other Norfolk State relievers helped shut the door on North Carolina Central in a 5-3, game 2 win for the Spartans in Saturday’s doubleheader against the Eagles at Durham Athletic Park.

NSU (2-1) dropped the first game 6-1, but won the series two-of-three thanks to its win in Saturday’s nightcap.

The Spartans will host their first home games of the season next weekend at Marty L. Miller Field when they host the U.S. Naval Academy. The teams play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
